I have a stock 03, 28000 miles. I do not know if the PCV check valve has ever been replaced. I noticed there is oil on the front side of the intake butterfly and oil has been exspelled from the PCV valve on the side of the motor. I just cruise, maybe get down on it every once in a while. Do I need a catch can? why is the oil in the intake? I appreciate all replies.
Thanks, Joey.

The rubber tube that houses the PCV valve can become dry rotted and leak rendering the PCV system less effective or useless.

Check that hose on the passengers side of the intake manifold near the Throttle body

YES,, a Catch Can will make a big difference in crank case oil consumption and oil inside the intake manifold

Good info thanks.
I do not think this is the original PCV valve. I am thinking I may have replaced it when I bough the car and changed the oil. (Big lesson learned there, drain plug at the frontof the pan.) The last time the oil was changed a shop did it. They may have replaced it as well. I need a new connector elbow.

The good news is that this is an inexpensive part. The old rule of thumb is that it should be replaced at every spark plug change. However, now that many manufacturers suggest plug changes at 100,000 miles, a PCV valve change at 50,000 miles is most likely an adequate change interval.
