Did the oil change yesterday afternoon. Used 7 quarts of Mobil 1 10w 30 high mileage and k&N oil filter. Usually every morning when I start it up in the garage I can hear the tapping pretty well for a couple minutes, now I can barley hear it.

Interesting thread. I've been running RP for years (0-40) (since my cam install). This summer, for my annual oil change I went with mobile 1 as the wife was with me when I bought the oil and wouldn't understand the extra expense. I have a decent sized cam so the valve train is noisy. However, this summer it has been extra noisy. Additionally, the lifter clatter the first few seconds after startup i used to get before the new cam is back.
Bottom line, I'm draining that junk oil (mobile 1) and going with something with a higher zinc content.

Default Here's what happened

LoneStarFRC you asked about the verdict...

I am dealing with a new problem (can't shift into any gear with the engine turning over, but can when shut down) and so I came to the forum for ideas. The lessons I learned during work I have done (myself, for the most part) include:

Coolant was definitely getting into the oil via porous block. GM "Cooling System Seal Tabs (part # 3634621)" are a must. Confidence level 99%

Oil changes probably should be more frequent than mfg recommendation, or DIC output. Confidence level 90%

ZIP Corvette transmission that I installed (Mine suffered what I would describe as a catastrophic failure involving much damage to the internals) was junk (loud whine in 3rd), and had to be re-installed (at Zip's expense). Never has been the same (audible whining in 2nd and 4th), and I could have purchased a NEW dealer transmission (Tremec) for almost exactly the same price. Additionally, the 'core charge' was only partially paid - standard practice, according to ZIP manager. Confidence level 100%

Although I am still driving the 2004 (now with 205,000 miles) - I am leaning very heavily towards a C7, which I hope to purchase and take delivery of at Bowling Green

Have you tried Mobil 1 High Mileage 5W-30 ? It has higher levels of zinc and phosphorus.
