OK before I get chastised for this idea hear me out I searched but found mostly the roof panel storage rack for the removable targa, so here goes:
I'm planning on doing some kind of a roof rack for my C5. The reason- I use my C5 for everything. I have a trailer hitch but a univeral roof rack would be nice for kayaks, bikes, cargo carriers etc
This guy in the C6 forum gave me inspiration. He got a targa from a FRC member. I plan on doing the same and either getting the roof professionally painted or just do black so it looks like the glass top.
Anyone do this on their C5? Seems pretty easy, get a rack, bolt it to the frame of the roof. Just need to find a member of the flying roof club
I was going to be the very first person to chastise you BUT,, If you have a SEPARATE TARGA for that very purpose and it allows you to better utilize your car, MORE POWER TO YOU BROTHER!
FANTASTIC IDEA!
I know that GM designed the targa fastening hardware system to meet specific SHOCK AND LOADING CRITERIA. If you subject it to severe side loading (i.e. heavy winds) I would be careful. Play it by ear.

Please correct me if I"m wrong, but wouldn't the cost of the rack and the second targa top (plus the painting costs) be about the same as the cost of a small, used, open-top trailer that would be able to hold even more without risking the latches getting ripped out of the car by wind/weight? You said you already pull a trailer with the Vette, so why not just get a smaller trailer for specific purposes?
