Does anyone have any experience pro or con with waterless engine coolant? I have a '99 FRC with 60,000 miles. Any help/opinions will be appreciated. I am going thru the entire cooling system so it is probably a good time to consider/not consider the waterless coolant! Thank you in advance.
Do you mean Evans? All I can tell you is I have used Dexcool in this and other cars. When the motor was opened for the head change, I used a boroscope to look at the inside of the radiator and looked into the block. It was immaculate. Not sure it is worth the effort to swap.
On a recent water pump R & R, did the flush with a 50/50% mixture of DexCool and distilled water. Dex and water is cheap and easy to purchase, why change?
I swapped Evans into my 60k mile 1994 Beretta Z26 with a Quad4 in June. The swap procedure is fairly tedious to make sure all the water is out of the system. This one was very neglected so everything that was serviceable was replaced anyways. I would probably just stick with Dex-Cool on the C5 though. The LS1 is a reliable engine and doesn't have any cooling issues like the Quad4 does.
I believe the Evans waterless coolant is mainly intended for cars (classic collector) that are stored for long periods of time and are seldom driven. It eliminates the risk of corrosion in the cooling system. Jay Leno uses it for this reason. Not really intended for our C5's.
I used it in an older car years ago, all the hoses became hard from the high heat of this coolant and any water had to be avoided. It did cool the engine well but wasn't worth the extra cost or side effects.
