Replacement rear tires
It's a great mag if you want to do side-by-side feature comparisins of a VCR; but (like you said) real world useage is something they haven't a clue about. Just because the testers at CR wear white lab coats, doesn't mean they are knowledgeable and experienced experts.
I know what you mean by that. I quit subscribing to Consumer Reports once I determined it was staffed by either old geezers and/or recent college grads that still live with their parents.

In summation:
If you want the BEST, go with the Goodyear GSD3s.
If you want the cheapest, go with the Kuhmos.
As you have read, not one person who posted has real world experience with BOTH tires. The closest thing you'll find to a person who has tested (or is in close contact with said person) not only these two but many, many more, is your friendly Tirerack rep. They are unanimous in saying that the D3s are the better tire. As I mentioned, if you can't afford the best and don't intend to drive too agressively, then get the Korean tires. You'll probably be satisfied.

A better link is one that tests tires.

There the D3 and the S03 were in a dead heat. I have owned a set of S03s and they weere no better than the Kumho MX I now own. Actually I have had 2 sets of MXs. BTW have you figured out that the MX was not the tire you cited in the Consumers Report yet?
As to your comment on Tirerack being unaminouus, the last I knew there were 44 salespeople at Tirerack. I've met quite a few of them on their track and up at Gingerman. I doubt very seriously if you could get all to agree what time the sun comes up let alone what the single best tire is. Did you call all 44? And BTW I only know of one of them that drives a C5 and he as Michelin tires on his last time I checked.
As far as driving too Kumhos agressively, I'm an instructor at Gingerman and would more than welcome for you to take a trip to the track and strut your stuff. We have quite a few people out there, just about every week, that run these "cheap Korean tires" Be glad to have you share your findings that the Kumhos can't be driven agressively.
Real life experience. You can't beat it.

You have plenty of experience with the Kuhmos and you like them - that's great, but until you actually try the best (GSD3s), you can't say that your experience is the ultimate proof. I have not tried either tire, but this is why I researched articles and websites before calling Tirerack twice to get their opinion. Now I don't know about you, but if four legitimate sources all say that the D3s are the tire to buy for ultimate performance, I tend to agree with them. Remember, I have yet to read one article that stated the MXs are the best high-performance tires out there.
Experience is great; limited experience with many different tires, including the D3s is what we both have plenty of.
Now, about the weather in Chicago...........
