Default TPIS to KOOKS question.

Any benefit making the change?

Currently I have TPIS long tube headers, with Random Pipes & cats X pipe.

Would change to KOOKS off road (no cats).

If I do this, should I get O2 sims, or have LS1 Edit make that tweeking adjustment?

Any gains or would this be a step sideways?

I remember someone posting this exact change, and they picked up some power as well.

You can make nice hp gains without going to Kooks if you like. I installed a Dr Gas x-pipe in place of my cats and picked up 17 rwhp on my my TPIS-equiped '00 coupe, which is otherwise stock except for ported throttlebody. The x-pipe was specd. by national autocross champ Danny Popp who has done a lot of testing and who reccommends the TPIS/Dr Gas combo. His Z06 competition car made 402rwhp with this combo, ported tb, Vararam and tuning. My car made 344 rwhp w/ minor tuning. By the way, deleting the cats lightens the car by probably 15lbs.

TPIS headers with Random tech cats and x-pipe GHL Exhaust.

Cyclone air induction with 90 mm ported and Polished TB, changed the mass air flow sensor to accomidate. Reprogramed computer to 6650 redline ( I dont go over 6000 ) dyno tunded with a great LS1 edit/ reprograming. 402 rwhp and 425 rwtq ( no heads or cam other then stock on an LS1 engine coupe)

I think no matter what you put on, having a great LS1 edit / computer reporgram with a dyno tune is key to maximise car performance. Next is seat time, seat time and more seat time to maximise driver performance.

And since your in the Philly area go over to Phoenix Performance in Phoenixville. They can do the dyno tune and help you with suggestions

i did just what you are describing and picked up 8rwhp, but Kooks were 1 7/8 and not 1 3/4....also picked up 5 on tq and and full curve overlay was always in favor of Kooks....not perfect test but i would guess you will get 5rwhp....just have to decide if worth the $.

What other mods do you have on the car? I wouldn't bother going to Kooks unless you have at least a large H&C. $$ could be better spent on other mods.

I asked Cartek this question-they said the only advantage kooks has is that they are stainless. They both perform very well.

I had TPIS headers with the Dr. Gas offroad X combo. Then went to Kooks when I had heads and cam installed because the coating was comming off my TPIS's. I'm curious to see how much I did gain or lose going to Kooks. I still have the TPIS sitting here, with the x-pipe/center section at the Vette Doctors. I'd love to swap back and compare #'s, but it'll be too much $$$.
