I bought my '08 in Nov of '07. I live near Chicago. the south extension of I-355 has been in the planning stages for 20 years, and was completed in 2007. still does not show on the nav map
next time I buy a GM (if they are still in business) no nav for me

my Garmin Zumo downloads map updates from the web
Garmin for me
Everybody knows the handhelds are far superior to the factory NAV...except for one thing...the way the factory NAV works with the HUD is just so darn cool!! To me, it's worth the price of admission.
Eritosthenes, PM me if this ends up requiring more contact info than what is displayed in our profiles. They may want to have real names, VINs, etc. if any legal action is to take place.
I hope GM/BUDCO will respond to this in a mature and businesslike way. My objective here is get them to fulfill their obligations under the annual update program. If they're smart they won't ignore me and risk investigation by a state AG.
If they're not, I will PM everyone on the list to ask for any personal information required to support a consumer complaint: full name, address, VIN, purchase date, update order date, etc.
My June built 09 Z06 came with the V4.0 discs and I had my dealer order me the V5.0 discs under warranty back in Sept or Oct. Since GM hasn't sent the dealer my V5.0 replacement discs, last week my salesman traded me my V4.0 for a new unopened V5.0 from his desk drawer(he keeps all the NAV discs from the Corvettes in stock locked up so they don't "walk" off. The new 09's he gets all have the V5.0 discs now. He instructed the serviced advisor to send him the V5.0 discs(ordered for me) to him when they do show up. That's service after the sale that will bring me back to this dealer. Thanks Wes.
Ordered mine on 10/07; 2007 Corvette bought in 2006.
Backordered; still waiting.
However, since GM is in such disarray at the moment, I doubt that getting the discs to customers is their number one priority.

Way to put the fear of God into them. Hopefully the Illinois State AG's office won't have anything more pressing to work on.
If someone local has the v5.0 disc then I can try to make a copy and we can share it with everyone
I'm in the same boat as you - and the same are (DFW). I have the 4.0 Disc, and even though I remember being told I would get free updates, I come to find out since mine is an 08 - I have to pay 200 dollars.
I have certain skills with computers/burning and making things work that shouldn't work *wink*
I have successfully copies my 4.0 Disc - if anyone local feels like meeting up I can bring my laptop along and image the disc (actually burning successfully is another story that involves a lot of fiddling) Or (and I don't actually expect this to happen but if someone had a 5.0 laying around and could stand to be without it for a few days and mail it) I could work that way as well. Of course I would mail it back as well wrapped in a $20 bill (for safety of course)
I'd love a 5.0 update, but if GM thinks its cool to charge 200 dollars they are way out of line. Especially when you can go and get full on dash units for HALF that.
The stock shortage of this CD is bogus - saying its under "testing" is crap. Once you have a CD mastered you can crank out thousands a day. Whoever they hired to press their CD's for them does not know how to do business.
If anyone is local and has a 5.0 or is trusting enough to loan me one for a few days - PM me.
I ordered my free 2009 disk on 10/29/08. I called today and was told it was still on backorder with no timetable. Its not a major issue however, as I now use a Garmin 260 and much, much happier with it. But the Nav screen does look cool in my console.
I just checked GM's NAV web site and they want me to send the $199 for my v5 disks. It was my understanding when I bought the car that I would get two free annual updates (to v4 and v5).
I've never received a post card from GM announcing an update was available. If I hadn't logged onto the web site tonight I wouldn't have learned that those who purchased 2007 models in calendar year 2006 have until December 31 to request their v5 update. After that the upgrade isn't free.
NOOOOOO!!!!! I have been waiting to get my 06 that I bought last month before ordering the update (to verify which one was in it). Unfortunately it took the transport company this long to pick it up and get it to me, it only arrived tonight. I went to order the update but now I cannot get one!
If anyone can help me out with an extra copy of version 5, please pm me. I am stuck with 3 now.

After seeing posts here, I have a question. Have a new 2008 which was picked up last July 2008, manufacturing was in March 2008.
Dealer gave me a version 3 disc. Did I get ripped off? According to info here, I should have received a version 4, is that correct???
Also, I read somewhere that free disc updates do not apply to year 2008 corvettes, is this true or false?? Anyone know? I plan on calling the disc number this week, and need some info.

Not sure if you got ripped off but I think so-you should have V 4.
Free Nav updates do NOT apply to 2008. After all you did get free 30 hp more than the 2007's, so why should you expect a free nav disk too?
From: Currently somewhere in IL,IN,KY,TN,MO,AR,MS,AL, or FL

I think you did get ripped. The nav disc isn't tied to the year. New discs seem to come out in the fall so when you bought your car you should have gotten the disc that came out in the fall of '07 which was 4.0. That is what should have been in the car from the factory. Your dealer probably swapped discs to give someone else a newer one figuring you would never know the difference.
how can you tell what version it is? is there a menu on the nav to find out? or only if you have the cd case can you know? anyone find specific differences so far who have v5?

The version should be printed directly on the discs.
