any car company can buy any competitor's car and say that is the benchmark they are seeking to attain. ex. bmw 3 series
I don't think the C6 is a Kia in any way, incl. the interior.
but, if you notice, very few if any of the car makers ever attain their supposed benchmark cars. it's a goal not an objective. there is a difference, by definition.
and one of the objectives may be to see how close they can get, with certain constraints like money possibly being uppermost.
Since sales are down on the ZO6, now would be a great time for GM to offer a automatic version. If the Supercharged CTS-V can have a A6 with 556hp, I can't see why the Z06 wouldn't also have this option for the buyer.....Sales would go up.
no more base coupes/verts for 2012; only GS coupes/verts, Z06s, and ZR1s.
We're pretty close to that prediction right now.
Not sure i understand the GS as a vert. I thought the GS was dedicated for track use. How many verts do you see on a track?
Careful what you wish for...try to spec a new CTS Coupe with any high-end options and NOT get wood grain interior. That's the single reason my Dad isn't driving one of them right now.
If GM could find a way to shoehorn that into a Vette option package, I wouldnt put it past them.

Z06 weighs 3135lbs
CTS-V weighs 4000+lbs
A6 in the Z06 is a no brainer.
I don't know if this would really generate that many sales and be worth the trouble of doing this. The Z06 buyer wants a manual. There may be a few that would go for the automatic but the current version of the automatic leaves a lot to be desired. The real issue is making the automatic a better performer for track use.

You'd certainly think that GM got the message from the Caddy XLR interiors....forgettaboutit! Even real wood interiors look cheezy after a few years.

I'll tell you what would be cool, AND EASY! Bring back the Z51 package in the coupe and vert, and change the LS7 crank to get rid of the dry sump pump, put an oil pan on it, and offer this LS7 in the coupe and vert.
Then a buyer could have 505 HP, LS7 in a targa, vert, or with MX0, without having to deal with the fat tire syndrome of the wide bodies.
Other than a new color or 2, and possibly a special edition with a few new stripes, 2012 will have nothing new to offer because the C7 will be a 2013 model out in the last quarter of 2012. There is zero doubt in my mind about this.
