That's a bummer, and strange they didn't take the car. Yes you can get new fobs reprogrammed, which cancels out the old ones. Think cancelling out your credit cards and changing house locks would be of first priority, but doubt you'll be hearing from this guy again, as to much effort. Most people don't realize, even if you were carrying a gun, someone sticks one to your head first by suprise, and really not much you're gonna do. Probably would've taken that too. Maybe an idea. I have several cars, all with fobs. I just keep the house/work keys on a seperate ring.
Read what he said again. He's exactly right. Guns can get you killed just as easily as they can save your life. He never said anything about taking responsibility for for your owns safety, he said if the guy walks up and has a gun pointed at you it's too late to go for your gun. If you do, you are putting the odds of getting shot much higher than if you just do what he asks you to do.
Sorry this happened to you. I have personally been through it myself.
After I cooperated completely and gave over the cash, the kid (17 years old), raised the gun up toward my head and I ducked just before hearing the bang.
Being a logical person I could never understand how someone could attempt to kill someone for what ended up being a insignificant amount of money.
I am a gun owner and I now carry, but in all honesty, I would have been dead if I would of tried to draw at that time. He was on me too fast and too close. If you are going to carry, please practice alot and become very comfortable with the weapon. If I had realised it was happening sooner it may have helped.
The police had him in custody within a minute of my call to 911. I got to go to court and send him away. He lost 9.5 years of his life for a couple hundred bucks he did not even get to spend.
Now I can look him up on facebook and see pics of him hanging out with his friends drinking Coronas.
After it happens and you have time to think about it, it can mess with your head a little. I was jumpy and suspicious of anyone dressed similarly or coming too close for a little while. Completely subconciously, but it happened.
Sincerely glad it went down with no physical harm.
Definitely report any lost cards with a credit agency and do a freeze.
Do the fob advice listed above.
Change door locks if house key was lost with address information.
If the thief is smart (if you can call them smart) he will not take it further, but he could make a couple bucks selling your ID and keys to someone who will do something.
Some Advise: Be careful what you put in print it can bite back someday. DA or Defense Atty. can use it against you
Very true. The NRA had a problem with a young man and his Facebook wall a few months ago. I do my best to practice what I preach & to not tell a lie, that way it makes it easier to remember what I post online.
I'm always amazed by the internet ninjas and the woulda, coulda, shoulda. If someone has a gun to your head, your best bet is to follow their instructions cool and calmly. And this is coming from along time CCW holder.
Thats easy. Handgun for the car, shotgun for the house.
In this instance...the old saying, if a little is good a lot is better, applies. Hell, put a hidden gun on each floor, maybe more than one. I live in a safe neighborhood, but it has not been immune from break-ins. Oh, and big dogs that bark.
Petty thieves would be well-advised to go to the next house.
Seriously though...to the OP, scary stuff. Glad you are unharmed. I've talked to police in my community...criminals are becoming very bold.
Correct...and then you get the input from the folks who keep their gun IN THE CAR!
Peace, out.

Some of you would actually take a life over a wallet? Have any of you big talkers ever taken a life before? I don't mean in combat, I mean up close and personal.
From: Stafford VA, home of our wolf den. No house break ins to date.

trouble is now days, sometimes they take more than your wallet..
ie: you life.
you never know what a hyped up criminal is going to do.
Personally, i do everything I can not to be a victim. Awareness of your immediate surroundings and suspicious activity is a good start.
Being in wolf and wolfdog rescue has caused me to be even more cautious, for some of the owners see you as the repo man.......
I'm glad everything turned out ok. I was in a similar situation years ago. My car was being broken into and once I noticed , in my fit of rage and stupidity, I ran to it without a weapon. They saw me coming and ran off. (or so I thought) As I stood in the car door in disbelief, 5 guys ran up on me from behind a nearby dumpster. One of the guys got face to face with me and said "Everything in the world that's yours, I want!" I'll never forget those words. Out the corner of my eye I saw a huge "Crocodile Dundee" knife that they left in the seat from the inital break-in. I grabbed it and chased the guy as I watched his friend track my with his gun but afraid of shooting his buddy. I chased him and they chased me. I got away with my life and a serious lesson. Though I was mentally prepared for a battle, I was outnumbered. I was the one stupid that day. Never again. I hope everything works out well.
I was robbed at gunpoint this morning in the 24 Hour Fitness parking lot. I am OK, but the bad guys got my wallet and my key fob (but didn't hurt the car). So now they know where I live and might come after my car.
Here is my question: can my car be re-programed so that the fob that was stolen will no longer operate it? I need to buy a new fob and could I have it (and my spare) programmed to operate the car?
Thanks for your help
Sorry for what happened, glad your okay.
Now your from Texas and you were not carrying a firearm
