I've taken several road trips between 2,500 and 8,000 miles and average 26-28 overall. That includes occasional Interstates, but more often just two and four lane Federal routes. I usually drive 5-10 over, but some fairly friendly cops have noticed some deviations and thankfully missed a lot more.
If I'm strictly in town and checking tank-to-tank, I get 18 to 22 depending on my attitude.
Around town we are getting a little over 18 so far. We have an 07 manual - would you think something is wrong somewhere (out of tune maybe) since the highway is so low?
I just took a trip last week 2006 C6 LS2 stock. . 700 miles each way and the dash milage said I was getting 20.4 each way.....it changed to 20.1 a couple of times. I was running about 70 - 78 mph on the interstate. Is the in car mileage display accurate?
I averaged 30 mpg driving to OH for 10 hours with an average speed of 68 mph. I cruised at 75 whenever traffic permitted.
Since I had the Edelbrock SC installed, I get 28 to 28 1/2 mpg under the same conditions. I get a lot less driving around town than I did before because as others have said, it's too much fun putting your foot in it.
I've heard of people getting great mpg, but until I went and bought/drove back my current GS I hadn't seen it for myself. Over 300+ mile stretches of texas I was getting 28+. This particular photo was taken a tad early, I actually hit 29.5mpg on fillup. In more hilly areas I averaged around 26 going ~75-80mph.
I've got an '06 A6. My best is 30.2. Took the car to Vegas in September and averaged 29.1 for the trip doing 65-85 mph with the a/c on the majority of the time. Generally get 16-18 city and 27-30 highway depending on the conditions.
My last cross texas trip I got about 24-25 mpg going 80 mph (west texas). That's with a near 500 rwhp a6 LS3. Commuting to work in Houston I get about 18 mpg average (lot's of stop and go).
The transmission gearing is different in a Z51 then a base(non Z51 C6) or the Z06. In 6th gear, cruising at 75 MPH, your engine is turning 230 RPM more then a base C6 w/o Z51 or a Z06 in 6th gear at 75 MPH.
More RPM= more gas used.
For those that have a Grand Sport, you have the same gearing as in the Z51 which accounts partly for your reduced gas mileage compared to a base C6.
Frankly...I don't care. Never pay attention. The 5,500 miles I have on my ''11 GS have been so enjoyable, the cost of the fuel is just not a consideration.
Knowing I am getting over 20 mpg is icing on my cake.
We didn't buy it for the mileage either just wanted to make sure there wasn't something wrong with it and we didn't know it since we're the third owners. Thank you much for all your help!
I'm thinking next spring/summer we will get significantly less than we are getting now!
My 2008 coupe with a manual transmission and the Z51 pkg. averages 20 mpg in mixed driving around town, but consistently gets 29 or 30 mpg (calculated, not the DIC) on the highway with the cruise set at 75. It was more like 25 on the highway until I got 8 or 10 thousand miles on it, then it seemed to improve. This summer we went on a 2800 mile trip to WY and UT and it averaged 31 for the entire trip!
