Last week I drove 1,700 miles and got just over 28mpg at 75-80. The secret to high mileage is ALWAYS be on cruise control in 6th gear and step on the gas before you step on the brake. Accelerating around a situation uses less gas than slowing down.
Posted this about my 09 w/z51 awhile back. Since then I drove another trip of about ~300 miles and got 22mpg but then recently drove ~875 miles on a trip which was all hiway and kept the speeds between 70-80 all the way and got 25.5mpg. Really not bad for a 400+ hp beast. I only get 29.5mpg hiway in my 4 cyl Nissan Altima. That kinda keeps it in perspective for me.
The best I have gotten on a trip was 27.4, and I have averaged 21.4 over the last 10,000 miles, or so. I keep pretty close tabs on my mileage with an iPod app, and it doesn't match my DIC average. It has been suggested that the 10% Ethanol, that I usually put in it, could be part of the reason. I am still happy with my mileage. It sure beats the mileage I get in the truck!

Ethanol is junk, even at 10%. I bought this stuff at auto zone made by Lucas that seems to help with ethanol fuel. I forgot the name exactly. I notice a difference here with my 08 when they switched to ethanol. I use to be able to cruise up this steep hill at 60 mph in 6th, now it has to shift down. My 11 GS Vert does the exact same thing.
07 manual as well (LS2) round trip apprx 400 miles 75 - 80 on cruise only breaking off to 70 when receiving the dreaded bogie hits on radar.
First car I've owned that's lived up the quoted mpg on the sticker (18/28) I believe.
Drove 2600 miles to Ft. Myers and back to SE PA last year and averaged 29.3. Took the drive to move down here , 1300 miles, last month and averaged 28.6. The big difference.....every gas station now is a least 10% ethanol. But, that's still not bad for a car that averages 21-23 in the city and turns in the low 12's.
It appears the LS2 gets better milage than the LS3.
It does, but not by a lot.
We took our 2006 A6 Coupe on a 4,000+ mile road trip, averaged 25.8 mpg.
Three years later, we took a similar trip in our new 2009 A6 + Performance Axle, averaged 25.3 mpg.
92 C4 auto.>>>>>>>>just took a 136 mile cruze on the freeway 60mph CC on and got 26 MPG....then again my geo metro gets 45! hey maybe I can put a vette body on a geo frame

I get 22ish "around town", which is really suburban driving with relatively short trips. I've gotten as high as 30 on two lane highways with speed limit of 55, driving 65-70. And it's in the upper 20s on a strictly freeway trip driving around 75. My car has Z51 with A6, which has a somewhat peppier, and therefore less energy efficient, rear end.
I know it sounds unbelievable, but this was done last summer running non ethanol gas from Costco, on a perfectly flat highway run for one full hour at 60mph, with about 5 minutes where I had to slow down to 50 mph for construction. It was not downhill and there was no tailwind (but no headwind either) I had the air conditioning off and the windows open (and the roof was on) In mixed driving, as long as I don't get stuck in any massive traffic jams, I can average close to 25 MPG. This is according to the DIC, although I have compared a full tank of hand calculation MPG once and found it to be exactly on the money with what my DIC said (on that particular tankful it happened to be 22.3 MPG)
I know these cars weren't meant to be driven this way, but it's nice to know that they can achieve this kind of gas mileage and still be able to run low 12s in the quarter mile. I'm anxious to see what I could do with a C7, as I know it's capable of even better mileage with it's cylinder shutdown technology and taller overall gearing (on the non Z51 manual cars anyhow)
Two weeks ago I was up in the San Juan Islands for the weekend. Upon my return to Portland after topping up at the Burlington, Washington Costco I was reading 31.8 mpg on the information display. I did stop at Southcenter Mall to stretch my legs, but was otherwise moving at a steady pace. Cruise was set no higher than 76 mph (Posted Limit was 70 mph). When going through Seattle to Olympia cruise was set to 65 mph with some slow downs in traffic congestion.
I had a very hard time not opening up the throttle on this trip, but made it through OK
It's amazing how these cars can sip gas if you just let them. And how thirsty they can be if you open them up.
