The secret to high mileage is ALWAYS be on cruise control in 6th gear and step on the gas before you step on the brake. Accelerating around a situation uses less gas than slowing down.
Actually a conservative driver can usually beat cruise control slightly by allowing a slight slow-down while going up hill.
The cruise control will continue to push the throttle to maintain the pre-set speed.
The below is a pic of my dash info during an almost non-stop run from Albuquerque to almost Oklahoma City on I-40 last October - there was a lunch break and a restroom break, but that's it. I had the cruise set on 81 mph (I like odd numbers...). When I did the actual math on the fill up it was almost the same and the DIC but I forget what it was now... The *WORST* tank I've ever had was about 19 mpg which was 100% in town, stop & go driving. My average is generally somewhere between 22-24 mpg.
This was on my drive home in my 07 manual coupe from museum delivery in 2006:
I had filled the tank half an hour before in Boise, Idaho then hopped back on the interstate. I was shocked to see the mpg at 80mph, though I had been getting just over 30 on the open interstate. Reached for my camera and took several pics; this one came out. The all-time best is 33.6 when my wife drove at exactly 65mph for an hour in Monument Valley, Utah, no cruise control.
I get 15 in town and 24-27 on the highway but check out what happened when I found real fuel
What was the price difference between 100% gasoline and 10% ethanol? Around here, there's one place that I know of that sells 100% 93 gasoline (Phillips 66, which I think is top tier), but it costs close to a dollar a gallon more than 10% ethanol Chevron 93.
I tried a couple of tanks but couldn't tell any difference in gas mileage. But back when they first went to 10%, the gas mileage on my C5 dropped about 10%, and the car didn't run as well. I shudder to think what 15% ethanol will do.
A few years ago a member of the Corvette club I'm and his wife drove a convertible and a ZR1 home to CA from museum delivery. To their surprise, they got noticeably better mileage in both cars after they bought 93 octane gas. Who woulda thunk?
It would help if you would put what vette you drive. base vettes will get the best mpg.....narrow tires.
My trip back from WI to TX: 1685 miles, 25 1/2 hours sitting in the car (counting the three hour nap) average speed for whole trip 66 mph. average 25.5 mpg. going above posted speed limit: Yes Corvette: 2013 Grand Sport auto trans

There are quite a few stations in my area (I'm not all that far from the place in the picture) that has 100% gasoline - it's usually a quarter or so more per gallon - not a dollar... The places that have it generally have it as their highest octane gas - 91 or 93.
I have a 2008 3LT, A6, with Performance 2.73 ratio axle. On the highway I get around 29 cruising 75-80 on 10% ethanol premium. this is on pretty flat highway, in the hills it drops a little but still around 28.
I have only had the 08 a few months and have not had an opportunity to run PURE gas in it on a trip. But in my Avalon daily driver I see an increase of 10% on pure gas, sadly the closest station to me is about 70 miles away.
Are any of you able to get PURE gas in our area? Wish I could run it all the time in everything.
2011ga A6... average over a month will be about 20.5, mixed types of driving. Best avg ever was on a short low speed hop about 25 miles and had 33.1, then got on interstate and the 150 mile trip averaged 28.5. Usually doing 70-75 on interstate am about 26
