My choice for carry is the Gum Creek Custom assembly that goes under the steering wheel. I have them in all three of my cars. I have different holsters for my normal carry weapons - Springfield 45, Springfield XDs 45 and a Kel-Tec 380. The last two store in my hip pocket when out of the car. The GCC units do intrude on the leg room a bit in the GS when getting in, but not in the way when driving.

VA law as I found it...

As of July 1, 2010, a concealed handgun permit is not necessary when carrying a handgun while in a personal, private motor vehicle or vessel and such handgun is secured in a container or compartment in the vehicle or vessel. The term “secured” as used does not require the compartment to be locked. OAG opinion 11-111.

When I had my 05 coupe, this is where I kept mine when I went inside and didn't want to carry it on my person. The safe is actually bolted to the carpet and would be extremely hard to steal in a hurry.

(Previous owner put Corvette emblem on the safe. Most folks didnt even realize it was a safe)

My XD9 fits in the latch handle of the convertible top. Fits inside the handle perfect and is in easy reach.Otherwise its in a gun safe under the seat.

It all comes down to what are the odds your going to need your gun driving your Vette on a Sunday afternoon in the country? Slim to none Sure its possible, but so is nuclear war, but I'm not digging a bomb shelter in my backyard, are you?

BTW, I am pro gun and have my C&C permit....just not overly paranoid.

I don't expect to need my seat belt or fire extinguisher either, but here's a story about a doctor that my wife worked with getting kidnapped and murdered in Birmingham Mi, one of the nicest suburban cities in Michigan.

thats sad... I taught my girlfriend to shoot, how to carry, she got her CW permit a little while ago. I teach her situational awareness, what to look for etc. Training and training is definately key. The biggest thing you need to learn is be aware of your surroundings, it can save your life by not walking into a situation.

Some of us actually drive our cars except just on Sundays in the country.

Just saying.

I pack every where I go. I've had my share and seen many idiot encounters in my life. Hope I never have to point it or use it. But anyone gets in my face and even acts like going to put their hands on me is what its for. I keep a snub 357 to the side of my fireplace under a ball cap. Thats the home protection. House keeper even ignores that its there. Been there 5 or 6 years. I trust utterly no one. I have had a home break in with wife and I asleep in bed years ago. Wake with somone walking through your bed room in the dark.

From the sounds of it and our prior talks you know quite a bit more than most ever will.

I travel to a lot of different places and my Corvette is my trip car. Most often I am fine and not in places where I would "think" I would need it but then again everything doesnt always go to plan. You expect to find trouble in a bad area and you dont in a good area. When you least expect it is usually when things happen.

I dont live in a war zone but during college my fiance was going to school in a town we call Little Philly. Its all the rejects and transplants from other areas. Two streets away from the college is where she had her apartment and we heard gun shots almost every single night. Remember, this is not a major city. A murder/shooting had not been solved for over 5 years at the time and car jackings were taking place all the time. My .45 auto was strapped to my side EVERYWHERE in that town and it was a rule for me if I was going there. Even when I would ride my motorcycles I would have my pistol on my side.

Now Dan, you know its not a stupid thread. As the Corvette is a DD for many people and they do carry it is a good subject as to how people carry in a small interior car that we all own. The thread does involve the car in every aspect so I wouldnt say its stupid but perhaps it is not the thread for everyone.

Personally, I am sick of seeing the same old threads every day. If it doesnt involve wax, plasti dip, wheels or pictures of a car that looks like 99% of the rest (only it is another color) it is out of the norm on here. This is a good departure from the normal playful games of butt slapping and circle jerks.

Sort of like if a saggy boobed woman says "You wanna see em?" and you know they will be bad but you say "Does the day in the 'Y'?" hahhaa

Lots go good information here:

http://concealedcarryforum.com/forum/

BTW: many consider loads less than .38 Special +P and 9mm 147gr bullet loads inadequate for self protection. Smaller calibers, .380, .32 and less are considered "mouse guns".
