I had my 1st Corvette when I was 22 and never forgot the feeling I had when driving it. I will be 69 next month and 2 1/2 years ago decided it's time for another one. Kids are out and doing fine, house paid for and I'm retired, figured it was time to start enjoying life again. I don't really care what other people think, I didn't buy it to impress anyone, show off or try to be one up on the next guy. I love the car, love driving it and taking good care of it. Life is short and I just want to enjoy the rest of it and do what makes me happy.
If it's bugging you, sell the Vette, buy a minivan, and nobody will ever look at you again. Is that what you want????
Or...adopt a new attitude, maybe like... "Yeah, I'm an older guy, but I worked hard all my life, now I get to enjoy it. Maybe, just maybe, if you make all the right moves, you will retire with a cool car, nice home, happy wife, and money in the bank. Oops, gotta go, c-ya, don't even try to keep up with me..."
will be 73 in Sept. so I figure I am to old to care what any one thinks about anything.
haven't had any negative comments that I know of just strange looks which makes me smile, I think the look on my face tells them how happy I am to be retired and driving
my vette with pride.
I traded a very flashy Shelby GT500 for my GS. I used to get a lot of comments about the mustang. Im 44 and the Corvette feels just right for me. I have only gotten complements. I have found that owning this car has been a very positive experience. I have had 6 camaros, the one mustang and now this vette. My family has always made fun of me because I change cars like i change underwear. But this car will be with me for a while. Enjoy your ride no matter how old you are. I don't drive mine for the image. I drive mine because its a thrill and a half that will never get old.

This sounds like me. Mines just a shorter version.
Mine goes like this:
I've worked hard and played hard all my life. This is part of my play time. I hope you're able to do the same.

Here's the truth . . . it is foolish. There is no reason anyone needs a 400hp 2 seat car like a Corvette. Or a watch that costs $3000. Or an $800 pocketbook. Or shoes for $300. Or a steak for $75.
But yet all those foolish things are for sale, and every day people buy them and enjoy them . . . . and many when they cant even afford it.
So I say buy what you want, enjoy the hell out of it, ignore everyone else, and of course forget about age cause you are only as young as you feel.

I'm 66 and the twenty something girls at work love going for a ride. Screw them....ride on dude until you can't get out anymore! It's about what you enjoy not anybody else's opinion.
I'm 59 and I still hear "oh you must going through a mid life crisis, etc" and I respond with..well I guess I've been having a mid life crisis since I was 16 because anybody that knows me knows that all I ever drive are "hot-rodded cars" and even this corvette is my seventh one plus Z28's, SS Camaro's, GTO's on and on...besides the average Corvette owner is in their 50's...so I personally could give a crap what anybody thinks anyway. Most of the time it's positive anyway.
all I can say is that most people are just jealous - I am 45 and bald but I drive my car with pride and the music as loud as ever - I want to enjoy my car the way I want and for as long as I can
Just got back from a trip.
It's hot out, long drive and I pulled into the motel lot in Hannibal Mo. and a 20ish shirtless working class kid comes up and asks if it's a new one.
I said no, it's the old obsolete model.
He was clearly hypnotized and said his dream has always been to own one someday.
So, no, I don't feel foolish at all. I wouldn't trade it for the world.
To the OP... If you really feel that way, maybe it is time for a change of pace..... Corvettes aren't for everyone and they don't have to be forever....
An Audi, BMW, Lexus, etc.... Will have you blending in with the crowd around here.... And just think, it will only cost about twice what my almost new Vette cost.... For half of the performance... And worse mpg economy.... But really there has got to be something that you had your eye on that might suit you better at this stage in your life...
You can still hang out here, and eventually you will give in and snag another Vette!
