An Audi, BMW, Lexus, etc.... Will have you blending in with the crowd around here.... And just think, it will only cost about twice what my almost new Vette cost.... For half of the performance... And worse mpg economy.... But really there has got to be something that you had your eye on that might suit you better at this stage in your life...

You can still hang out here, and eventually you will give in and snag another Vette!
Let's be fair now, there are plenty of Mercedes, and a handful of BMWs and Lexus cars that will not only give the base Corvette a run for its money but outpace it. I like the car as much as the next owner, but let's be objective here.

My original post was a lil' tounge in cheek, that he would get bored with paying to much for a car that just blends in with the rest of the world.....

But...You made my point exactly..... For this kind of performance it costs nearly twice the price Of a $55k c7......Actually maybe triple the money if you are buying a$30k mint c6. And I dare you to find any AMG or M that can deliver this kind of amazing mpg economy....

2012 C63 AMG

0-60 in 3.7
481 horsepower
Sedans can be had for less than $30k. Coupes can be had in the $40-50k range.

Interior is MUCH nicer than my ZR1 and it gets about the same fuel economy. It's way down on power though. So in comparison to a ZR1 it costs less, is slower, similar fuel economy, and is much nicer inside. In comparison to a base C6, it's faster, a bit more expensive (although probably newer), much nicer inside, and gets worse fuel economy. I don't know in what world that makes the Corvette better

I like Vettes as much as the next person, that's why I bought one, but what I can't stand is the superior attitude so many owners have about other cars. They're constantly looking down at anything else and won't listen to any kind of argument for another car. And then it becomes "well, performance for money it's the best", which again just isn't true. If we wanted maximum performance for the money, we'd all probably be driving around in old Miatas.

I've known allot of the "I must prove everyone wrong" guys in my life... So I'll play along.....

Ok.... So you found the exact car for the OP..... Case closed...... Hehe....

But not really, since you took the time to research it....I did too.... On this side of the country on auto trader (500 mile radius) I found exactly one C class AMG 63 ...2012 or newer (but it had over 70k)... For under$40k... Most are closer to $50k

And you get the 451 hp beast ..... Which gets you some impressive 0-60....... Pony up another $6k for the Dev pack to get the other 30 hp for that under 4 second number....
And you receive a whopping maximum of 13/19 mpg for the base motor...

Yes the C class AMG is a helluva car.... My biz partner owns one(2012 coupe)I've driven it, it's a bad a$$ ....and the best mpg he has seen is around 10/16 mpg.....he also has a gen 1 viper and a 07 turbo Carrera and I dig all of them.....I love all great cars..... But my bone stock base will run with all three of those gas guzzling behemoths..... Depending on who can launch.....

I came to corvette only a year ago from a lowly Convertible Cobra, one of many throughout my life... So please don't pretend like you know me.....

I know you could care less about efficiency in your zr1, but I feel like this car is so versatile that you can have it all.... And I love the option to be able to drive it on long trips, without stopping at every gas station....it's a nice change of pace from the cobra/guzzler...

Once again....I wasn't trying to be a "vettes are superior to everything" douche bag......I was making a J-O-K-E....I'll admit I'm not a great comedian....geez... Takes all the fun out when you have to explain it.....

But I'm sure you will still spend the next two hours coming up with another car that could prove me wrong.....

Have a nice day.....

You were the one who asked me to find an AMG car and when I do you get pissy And now you're comparing a generation 1 Viper to a C6..... Yeah, there's no objectivity in your argument. I think we can just head our separate ways now.

Default mid life crisis?? pfft

I drove the Mustang and the Camaro before finding a '10 GS vert - manual. They both had their advantages.. but I just didn't feel like it was me. I picked the vette because of the handling and weight (the great looks of the widebody was a bonus).

They can call it "mid-life crisis" all they want, but I'm not some 42yo driving a Mustang with my hat backwards. Trying to look like a 20yo revving through parking lot with my new flowmasters. lol

I didn't pull you into this discussion, you just made a stupid comment and then tried to cover it up with more stupid comments. I simply responded to your comment (joke or not joke) that there are plenty of cars that hang with ours. If it really was a joke then I don't know why you would keep responding by telling me that Mercedes can't hang I suppose I just successfully got trolled then, shame on me for falling for it. You dared me to find an AMG Mercedes that can be compared and I did. You then decided to tear it to pieces because it isn't as good as your Vette (in your opinion). Then you compare your Vette to a car that is 15 years older and for the most part a kit car. See below:

So now you're just lying. Why would you clearly compare your C6 to a gen 1 Viper, and then when I call you on how ridiculous it is to compare the two you just lie about ever having said it? Or was that just a big joke too?

This entire conversation has been facilitated by you. I have done nothing but respond to your statements about other cars. You'll notice all I did was try and maintain some objectivity, but you keep pressing the issue about how much better a C6 is over Mercedes. Who's the one that dragged whom into this discussion?

I'm well over 70 and have been driving sports cars since I was 20, and actively racing them until I was in my late 50's. I have had my C6 at both Atlanta Motorsports Park and Road Atlanta within the last year or so. So no, I don't feel foolish.

BTW, for those of you who mentioned AMG's, I have one of those too, but in my case it's an SLK55. Oddly enough, my DD is a plugin hybrid.

Is it a Chevy Volt? How do you like it? If it isn't, what is it and how do you like it? I suppose it could be a McLaren P1 too tho

Good Lord..... Ok, I jokingly said, find an amg that gets this kind of gas mileage...... Knowing that it wasn't possible..... And I compared the viper and Porsche and amg as gas guzzling behemoths........since they are cars that I love and have first hand daily knowledge of.....

Repeat, I Love my biz partners AMG!
Never tore it to pieces as you claim
Never said it can't hang, these are just your words...
Amg63 is awesome, but very thirsty....
But I like driving his Porsche more...it's also thirsty,
And the gen 1 viper is just ridiculous and dangerous for anything but track use....and fyi, it's probably 25 years old...

I know I'm weird, because I find this c6 very versatile and fun and economical all at the same time.....
Most would laugh at me for caring if it was economical....But it allows me to enjoy it more than any other performance car I've ever owned...
Because I actually drive it more...

This would be easier if you would just go back and read the posts so I don't have to repeat myself....

They are jealous.

If you get rid of the Vette; you will be just like them...jealous of Corvette owners.

Period.

No McLaren - I wanted a Volt, but it was far to small inside for my equipment. I had been driving Priuses since 2004 and they were marginal on room. So, last July, I bought a 2014 Ford C-Max Energi, and it has performed very well. I've put 6K on it in a year and was surprised that a Ford rode better, handled better, was more powerful, and in general was a much more solid car than the Toyotas. I left the dealer with a full tank, refilled again in November, and then again in April of this year, for a total of 24.5 gallons. I still have 1/2 tank of that April fill up. According to the computer the engine has run 21% of the time while the rest is as an EV, and I have averaged 194.6 mpg. The non-plugin Priuses got about 60-63.

I get the mid-life crisis comment quite a bit but I turn it around on the people saying it by telling them it's actually a mid-life celebration for all my years of hard work.

I then look to their beat up piece of junk they are driving (which usually is the case anyway) and I tell them they could cure their jealousy by buying a toy for themselves. That normally shuts them up.

If one loves the BMW/Benz/Audi etc so much, why are you wasting your time on the C6 forum? There are plenty of those forums out there too We can always find a car that's faster or handles better than the Corvette. Who give's three drops of monkey ****. If you don't have one of those cars, what's the point of saying "my friends, uncle's neighbors nephew has a AMG that'll beat your base C6!" What are we in high school, post up what you got not about what you imagine. I never understood why people partake in forums that the subject matter they don't care for. Everyone is entitled to ones opinion, but why waste your time on something you supposedly don't care for?

Don't care what other people think of my owning a C6 and don't care what other people drive, either - to each their own. Wouldn't trade my Vette for anything other than a C7...all the Vette haters out there can go sit in there favorite ride and stew about it!

Hey Trip....I was gonna stay out of this but now I just have to chime in....don't be "TRIPPUN" (LOL) over this guy. Your spot on with your assessment of being a "Prove everyone wrong type of guy". As mentioned in another thread he is probably between 16 and 25 years old and when he has a problem he starts crying for Daddy...or his attorney. But there ain't no way he can be married cause thers no way no woman could put up with always being told she was doing the "Down and dirty" wrong....LOL.
