I think it would have been much more satisfying to drag his *** out of his car and beat the crap out of him. Regarding his lying BS, that's why I've installed two dashcams so far in my DD and the C6. I plan on getting one for each vehicle.
You can have all the video proof in the world, if the other person has no insurance you're **** out of luck. Sure you can sue them, but if they don't have anything whats the use.
The states seem to makes it easy for people to drive without insurance with no real consequences.
One thing good driving a car that's worth @ $22000 loss is not going to be that devastating. Even diminished value not the end of the world. Can you imagine the exposure driving something like $150000 Porsche or any high end unibody car.

Why would you sue your own insurance company? If they have a particular coverage they file a claim.
Of course you would sue if you think they breach the contract.
If you're injured in an accident you definitely want a lawyer no matter whose insurance is paying for it. I'm not so sure about doing it for uninsured motorist, but for other coverage yes.

I had to sue my own insurance company for underinsured personal injury. The girl’s insurance that rear ended my wife had just enough insurance to cover the vehicle but that was it. Don’t ever think your insurance has your back.

With the exception of work (I'm a federal employee) I don't go anywhere without one of my Glocks. Don't get me wrong, I am 100% in favor of avoidence of any confrontation when I'm carrying but in todays world you never know.
There are a lot of pluses to living in Texas over many other states including mine NY but this no insurance thing ain’t one of them. Get an appraisal on the repair, it might not be as crazy expensive as many are thinking. Glad you weren’t injured.
There is a reason that I have full coverage insurance, including uninsured motorist, and anyone behind the wheel of my cars as well.
With the amount of damage, car will be totaled, and now just comes down to either your insurance company paying out what the replacement cost will be for the car for another one, or your insurance company screwing you/you don't have the needed coverage to cover you and your ***** out of luck isntead.
Hence unless you do have front pocket money to burn to go buy another car without a second thought, then don't skimp on insuring the cars you are driving. Even in states that require the car to be insured to get plates (proof of insurance when you get the plates), just too many only buying/paying for the insurance for just that month, driving the car afterwards without insurance. And no with some, does not bite them in the **** by pulling this trick, since they get false paperwork every few years since the person that they are supposed to be, may get out of prison in a few years, and continuing to use the false paperwork/name, will bite them in the *** in such time instead.
So what happens, is they will pay a few hundred dollars for the information of someone in prison, so they can be that person. Most jobs they apply for, and what limited back ground checks are performed, do not pick such up. Worse, you do try to sue them, and before the court case happens, they will be on new paper work with another name, living elsewere; with you trying to sue someone that has been incarcerated during the time of the accident.

Proof of insurance required to get car inspected, as well as required to register car in Texas,
A lot of idiots buy the on-line insurance for just enough time to get their registration & then drop it - or drive with illegal tags for as long as they can.
I have the Escort M1 Dash Cam in both cars matching up with the radar detectors. I like having the ability to get video - granted it's not all angles, but it's enough to show my driving if something happens.
Collision and comprehensive cover the car. Uninsured motorist just covers medical costs. At least that's how it is around here. Uninsured motorist doesn't cover what most people think.
Sorry for your trouble brother, good luck....As others have said the sill plate is the biggest problem imo....That is one of the first things done when a Corvette is built is that part is glued and is an integral part of the frame I believe...Its on there before any other body part is hung...
Glad you are OK and came out of the altercation in one piece.
Richey Collision in Houston have repaired way worse. 12221 Veterans Memorial Drive. Send them some pics.

I find it amazing how many people never read their insurance policy and have no idea what it covers and what it doesn't. You are exactly right about "Uninsured motorist just covers medical costs." Your collision coverage will pay to repair your car minus your deductible. And I don't think it's totaled.
