Default Horn Relocation After E-Force Install

I was told the horns needed to relocated to accommodate the intercooler for my E-Force installation. Now, they sound as though one is disconnected or they are muffled. According to the installer, everything is OK and this is a common problem when installing blowers on C6's which require reloacting the horns. Has anyone else experienced this? If so, have you found a way to improve the sound and volume? Are there other horns that can easily replace the stock horns?

I believe that my car has this condition. When I first got the car back the horns sounded weak, which I blamed on a weak battery. Once I drove the car more the horns got stronger, but still sound different than before.

Same here with my Centri. My OEM horns sounded busted after relocating. Have for a while, so I picked up a new one and it sounded great in my hand but once mounted it sounded busted too. I had to zip tie it to something because it sounded like crap every time I mounted it to something. Even now I don't like how it sounds. Pretty puzzling. I need my horn when I go to Mexico!

I know, it's embarrassing. My exhaust is louder than my horn is now. A guy pulled out in front of me the other day and a "hand signal" was more effective than my horn!

Well let me join the "Horn from Hell" club! Mine also sounds like total crap after the relocation for E-Force. The only thing I can think of is somehow it's not being properly grounded. Gotta be something in common because we all have the same problem.....

I remember having a horn not working on one of my cars it turned out to be a bad ground! Fixed that and it worked perfect... Water can do it but mine hasn't really been in the rain so not buying that one! I'm going to check it this weekend and make sure there is a good ground before doing anything else..

My horn now sounds like something you would hear from Disney World after the E-Force install......the tech at the dealership says it is a grounding issue....find out in a few days.

I ran into the same thing. Get the original horn mount back from your installer and remount the horns on the opposite side of the frame rail that they are mounted on now. For some reason the new bracket tends to ground out the noise, in other words the mount is too robust and makes so that the horns can't vibrate freely to resonate their sounds.

How much crap do we need to pull off to get it moved as suggested?

I think it has to do more with the bracket absorbing the sound than the ground. The E-Force may comy with a new bracket but my ECS kit I just reloacted it and bent the bracket a bit. I thought it was a ground issue at first too but the new horn I got I grounded to the negative horn wire as well as the radiator cradle.

So we need to switch back to the factory bracket?

No. With my ECS kit it relocates the stock bracket and horns so I was using the stock bracket (and horns). Then I switched to an aftermarket horn and bracket and it sounded great in my hand but when I mounted it, it sounded like a wounded moose. Then I zip tied it up inside under the headlight and sounded good but when I put the bottom close out back on (part that the brake ducts pick up air from) it's too quiet.

So I don't have a good solution.

I think you can get enough access though the wheel well to fix it with the stock bracket. Just remove the right side tire, drop the lower front plastic wheel well shroud and remove the brake duct and its associated plastic peices, once those are out of the way you can see the horns.

I have to laugh in that we have these sophisticated high tech blowers and the freaken horn is defeating us!! There is some irony in that to me...

Now I'm going on a mission this weekend to make that freaken horn sound right simply because it should!

Thanks TJ... that helps me a lot! I was looking last night saying.. geezzz this looks like a lot of work to reach that freaken horn. There sure isn't much room on these cars to do much of anything without a major hassle... thanks again...

Now I just need to find the stock bracket..

Turn the wheels to the left which will allow you to remove the push pins on the outer part of the front wheel well. Then remove the 7mm screws along the bottom. Not too hard. If it were to add performance it would be a done deal but it's hard to justify the work for a freakin' horn I know. Thats why I've lived with it for so long...

I have a decent shop with air, ramps and jacks so at least I can get it up! Makes life a bit easier. Actually I just put it up and will work on it after more coffee... assuming the sun doesn't pop out! If so it can wait while I take it for ride. This thing is such a blast to drive now...

You're right it's a lot of work for a stupid horn...

Edlebrock ought to make change on their kit however so it's done right the first time. It's an expensive enough kit that EVERYTHING should work the first time.....

Husker, I'm sorry to have struck such a sensitive nerve with my question. Nevertheless, I'm glad it's now your mission to correct this situation. Please keep the rest of us in the loop on your efforts.
I'm still happy to report that after more than 1300 miles my E-Force has been trouble free.

Joo bastages! I just tried my horn. Boy, that makes 2 issues. The canned tune for the LS2 and the damned horn. I blushed as red as my car when I honked the horn!

Be very detailed with your "fix" Mr. Husker. I would really like to honk properly in my car.
