Eeek, that piston does not look good. Have you thought about an RHS block? Tick Performance has them for $4,700ish. Those are some expensive engine blocks though.
That piston is fine. It looks great in fact. It was to show the coating on skirt is barely worn through and skirt isn't worn or trashed .
Rhs blocks are complete crap. If I wanted a piece of crap my dog deposits plenty in the backyard. Just ask Bret how well rhs blocks work. They are hands down the worst ls blocks our there.
The thing with blocks is people don't see to understand the difference in work to get them up to usable condition. The first gen LSX blocks like mine needed ~$2k in work.
I'm being told LSR lift bores have issues, easy to fix, but pricey to rebush them, or move them, or oversize them if needed. Basically expect $1200-1500 extra in machine work for a LSR block.
Agreed....as a master engine machinist I had the opportunity to lay my hands on many aftermarket blocks that were either pure crap or required more than the block was worth in machining.
To bad the C5.R block is out of your price range.....very nice piece and strong as a coffin nail.

Ah ok, I thought the piston was burnt or something until you said coating and I looked at the piston again.
Bret who? There is a Brett in NC with a 427 RHS motor in a C6 GS and he makes 1,200 rwhp. I really do not know much about them and I have not heard really bad things about them. My research on them did start today though.

I did see where some blocks needed a ton of work, someone mentioned the Dart block needed a ton. I am interested to see about the LSR mentioned in this thread.

Pistons/Crank/Rods/Block all sorted out
Now just some minor stuff like selecting cam, lifters, options.
What did you go with as far as heads and rotating assembly? I'm also creeping into the cam/lifters arena looking at all the options... Always being told different things but all agree on link bar style. I need to read more on short travel vs. standard travel hydraulic.
