And for your info I have the Vortex Ram air (clear air box and carbon fiber elbow), and for what it's worth, I would never buy a Vararam for the simple fact that I Just don't like the quality or the looks of it, not that it's not functional, just not my cup of tea. I prefer the Vortex quality and asthetics period in addition, it Works ..Hope this internet tough guy brought something to the table.

BTW..do you even own a vette? Nice profile with Zero info..

If they truly have a ram air effect, almost all of the 1/4 mile difference would be after the 330 mark - do the time slips bear that out?

I really think a lot of these claims are fast a loose with the facts. Almost all of them have other mods done. And in almost all cases, track conditions could very well have changed.

I believe a CAI can increase hp some, but I think people need to be realistic about just how much is possible. The only thing it can do is lower the intake temp, and allow more air flow. Without other mods, the engine can only suck in so much air, and can only increase power as much as the change in intake temp allows.

Some of the increase claims are starting with 1/4 mile times that are pretty mediocre to begin with (on a stock car). When someone goes from pretty mediocre, to better - but still 3-4 tenths slower than many people have posted bone stock, it makes me question what really happened.

Sorry for my skepticism, but I just think some of the claims are very exagerated.
My friend, I would like to share with you my experience with the Vortex ram air. I prefer to do one mod at a time to truely grasp any power increase one might gain from the SOTP feel. Before I went with cam and 4.10 gears. I started with basic mods as in 1.75 kooks, hi flo cats and cat back, being the first mods. I noticed a nice kick in the pants but not too much. The following week I installed the Vortex ram air.

My SOTP feel with the Vortex was definitely noticible after 60mph on a hard launch, there after it was more evident in third and fourth gears to redline. Car felt a lot stronger thru mid band and redline, and it was a definite gain. I ran this set up for a few short months, and then came the 4.10's and the rest is well..So by doing minor mods in stages one can ascertain the gains without second guessing. I don't believe in full blown mods all at once unless I have an agenda at the track.

Profanity is not etiquette, get it right. read post 102 and then say " I don't bring anything to the table." How about real experience..Nice profile BTW..What's your experience with the LS3?

Like I said, I believe it does add some hp. I still have a BPP CAI in my attic that I had on both of my C5's. Yes, I'm certain it added hp. It's the extent of how much it can add that I question.

It is reall difficult one to document the gains since cai's can't be dynoed for true hp gains, however one must conclude that if one gains .2 tenths on the 1/4 and 3 mph same day swap and same DA, that 40rwhp after 330 ft is possible. Maybe not all of it but 30rwhp for sure..

I think( don't shoot me), .2 seconds would be worth about 20rwhp as a 10rwhp increase usually equates to .1 sec in the 1/4 mile

It depends where in the power band..20hp in the higher rpm stages is not ideal when it comes to quick elapsed times..However, 20 hp in the mid band provides quicker acceleration and Et's given the same Hp rating...You are close with your assessment, but real world racing disagrees with your equation. Your 10rwhp = .1 sec in the 1/4 might apply to 13 second and 14 second cars, but when it comes to big hp, as in 750rwhp to 1500rwhp and even higher your .1tenth = 20 hp laws of physics don't apply..

Maybe one day, someone will volunteer their car, the vendors a few units, and there can be a back to back test and shoot out. That's the only way you'll ever truly know which one provides the "most" gains in a particular application.

In the end, maybe we can all agree that any CAI is better than no CAI, and which ever one fits your budget, your asthetics and your purpose...cut the shroud, bolt it on and get out there and drive the pants off the car, and may the winner be kind enough to buy a cold one for the loser....and no matter which one you choose, remember the vendors that come here to give us info and great service...they spend time in these threads instead of doing something else and they do deserve our support.

I have to agree with you also.

By the way the car that had the test done already had a Vetteair system and we still got 2 tenths faster, what would of happened if the car was stock?

Also sorry if I offended you but you should have asked if the top mph at the end of the 1/4 was the same for both a stick or a auto car and not just stated the 121 was a faster car. Auto car et and mph should be held seperate from stick cars. By the way I did not call you names for what you said why would you attack us. Facts have to be correct on this forum. Oh and I do own 3 Corvettes which includes a full blown race car. If you like you can visit my myspace and see the cars I own and develop products for. We put 9 years in this industry designing products, Programming and racing. Our customers that have visited our facility or used our products will vouch for our high quality standards.

I still have no hard feelings for what you said and still invite you to visit or even call me to to go over any products in detail.

Most every customer I've done this for believed that there was an improvement over what they had previously.

If you're NOT in the market for a VARARAM...Jump on EBAY cause after I remove the "other brand intakes" I always suggest that the customer s sell them on E-bay to recoup some of their money.

I could use ANY air intake on the market for the customers at my shop.....

Bottom Line is that I will NEVER sell or install anything but a VARARAM!

I guess we could say the same thing that we have removed over 100 other units to install the Vortex.

Thanks for posting the link.

I have been reading this thread on the CAI and wanted to add a personal experience:

I have the Vortex in my C6.

Last summer I got caught (don’t ask LOL) in one of the hurricane weather systems while in the Vette. The rain was literally shaking the car it was coming down so hard and the lightning basically never stopped - two to three bolts simultaneously about every 5 seconds or so. Scared the crap out of me I am will admit.

I finally had to pull over since I could not see the road just in front of the nose of the car it was raining so hard. I just prayed I would not get slammed into from the rear.

The Vortex ran great and even in all that, I had not one water issue in my engine.

One feature that I like about the Vortex Cai with their clear set up, is that I can see the filter easily and observe if there are any debris present that may have been sucked in to hamper performance or a possible blockage inside the air box or the filter, without opening the air box.
