Default Jackstands

Need some help please. I am getting ready to put new tires and wheels on my car and I want to put the car on Jackstands and take the tires to the tire shop. What is the best and safest way to put it on the stands and the best place to locate the stands under the car. I will have the car on the stands for about a week since these tires and wheels are sold and my new ones are not here yet. Any help and photos will be greatly appreciated. VNVETT....

I have several sets that are very old that were made by Walker Jack company in Racine WI.

I also built a set made out of 2x12 that I put under the lifting pads.

Ive put mine on stands about a million times. Ive change out the tourque converter on jack stands and the diff as well as installed my exhuast. Just put the stands on the back cross member on the most outside portion portion same as the front. I would get you a pic but Im at work.

I raise my car with a Craftsmen floor jack with crossbeam adaptor(s) and I'll set it on jack stands under the jacking pucks. I use the rectangular BMW jacking pucks which the jack stands cradle well. The car is secure on the jack stands but I'll also leave the floor jack/adaptor beam in-place for stability and added security. Make sure the jack stands won't slip out from under the jacking pucks. You can place additional jack stands or use a second floor jack/adaptor beam for added security.

You can't be too safe when you're working under the car.

an easier way was showed to me by the mechanic at the Cad./ Corvette dealership where I purchased my car. This involves the following: a) one hydraulic floor jack b) 4 floor jacks c) 4 pucks to attach to the corvette underside. Start by placing the first puck in the left front position under the car in its slot. Next, jack up the car on this front left front side. Place the first floor jack under the rear leg of the control arm (as close to the ball joint as possible). Jack up the right passenger side in the same way. This now has the front of the car raised. To raise the rear half, use the hydraulic floor jack and jack this up dead center on the rear main frame cross beam. Again use the remaining two pucks and floor jacks on the rear slots. And there you are.

I use 4 of these. No pucks needed and they use the factory puck location. Pricey though.

The owners manual shows you the "preferred" jacking locations.

And jacking from the middle of the beam is NOT the way to do it unless you want to break it. The front jackstand placement is not correct either. This is why people hate to take their cars to dealerships...too many stupid people there that can't read the manual to get the correct info.

Love these ramps, and they look like they simplify the process quite a bit. What is the brand and/or where did you get them? Looks like you have plenty of room to change oil, etc. How high does your jack system lift the car, and does it work for just the front, if I want to do wheel/brake work?

Here's a pair of Blackhawk stands I use. Omega makes the same one's, too.
