I just wanted to add a service column lock remedy. My manual 2005 had the column lock bypass installed. About 6 months after, the service column lock message appeared. The column was not locking, and I just had the message on the DIC. The car drove fine. The remedy was to have the BCM reprogrammed at the Chevrolet dealership with the column lock system programmed OUT. There is a option on GM software to edit the column lock system software out. The tech showed me the screen on the computer. It will prevent future column lock problems, even with the bypass. It was one hour labor. It worked perfectly. The bypass will NOT prevent future column lock problems. Only reprogramming will.
