Thanks for the writeup. When I replaced my brake pads, I noticed my transmission was covered in oil.

So I took it in today and it appears to be leaking right at the big gasket towards the rear of the transmission. I stole one of slickshoes pics and circled where the leak is.

I took it to the dealer and they agreed with me on the leak, but wanted $1700 to fix it. So looks like I'll be learning to drop it on my own.

Now the questions are, how much do I need to take apart to fix it and what do I upgrade while I am at it? Since I am not going through this without getting something out of it.

Welp, I'm just going to soldier on anyway and drop the torque tube. At the very least, I can upgrade my current slave to the new Z06 one that's sitting in my kitchen. Might as well while I'm down here. I think I might put the car on hold for a few days while I ship in a remote bleeder, too. Not gonna go through this again for no reason.

So hows it coming along?

Do you have any details on the clutch portion of this write up?

Thanks, you've been a big help.

Oh man, I'd forgotten about this thread till now. I apologize! Long story short, I swapped the SC and bolted everything back together. All's well, though the Z06 diff I installed was noisier than I'd hoped it was going to be, and the diff has progressively began to whine louder during deceleration in gear. It looks like I'll have the rear end out a 5th time soon.

For Rodney's comment, well, my speedometer works.

Glad this thread has helped out a bit for everyone reading. I'm thinking about doing some more write ups for simple stuff like what I accomplished today: Plugs, Wires, and new upstream O2 sensors. Worth it?

Absolutely worth it. With google search, you never know who will find your posts googling spark plug replacement, even non forum members. Always nice to help someone.

Great write-up. Can you point out which sensor is what on the tranny? Specifically the reverse lockout?

Mine is doing the same. Checked the tranny fluid and it is full while the diff fluid didn't dribble out when I pulled the fill plug. Bought another quart so we'll see just how low it is. Anyone figure out what causes the leak here?

Must be a gasket, mine was collecting a bit of fluid at that point before as well but nothing too bad.
After I had my trans rebuilt (grinding 3rd) with Charlie @ RPM, I did notice that area stayed clean/dry, so stopped paying attention to that area after a while

Do you have a replacement rear? I've seen it happen when the rears get replaced. I don't think there's a gasket between there (it's been a while since I've done a swap so don't hold me to it)...but I know we got in the habit of putting some silicone form a gasket in there when they are separated to prevent leaks. The top of the rear is open in that cavity....maybe gear oil slings out a little if overfull? I've also seen them stop leaking after a while.

Just did the clutch. Not sure it was seperated from the tranny but the tranny was full of greasy dirt. Never dripped in garage prior too after swap it is.

A question for you guys who have dropped the cradle a few times. Does it knock out the thrust angle of the 4 wheel alignment?

I got maybe 5 pumps of diff fluid in before it started dribbling out. Guess it was over filled and the excess purged out.

Id say get one done, I did just for peace of mind. It wasnt really off though. When I lined the cradle back up I tried to get the "bolt/washer scars back in exactly the same spot. You know what I mean, the clean aluminum under the bolt, shouldn't be seen it you line it up the same way.

Im guessing this helped me get back in line.

BTW, to the OP, this thread really helped me get things done. It was really informative. I ended up doing a Torque Tube rebuild and a clutch change. Id be happy to help anyone with any ?'s. Im an average Joe, not a pro.

Wow that was a great write-up, I was looking forward to the slave replacment and the remote bleeder, I'm in the same boat but not sure what my problem is, I have an 06 cpe.mn6 w/Z51 option it only has 5800mi. on it. Took it out this past wed. after a car cruise wanted to have a little fun, I launched pretty hard and went into second and the clutch stayed on the floor, I managed to get back to the garage without a clutch. Iv'e installed clean fluid and pumped and pumped the pedal, clutch is engaged and wont release and pedal on the floor unless I pull it up by hand , I don't know I blew the master cyl. or slave cyl. I can't find any leaks of any kind, and Iv'e been looking for someone with your experience maybe you have an idea what I should do.
