Whats to laugh about, it is ram air, they never claimed forced induction turbo or super charger or any lbs of boost, you cant deny some amount of air is being forced or rammed into it at speed, if you do i am really laughing

There was a car TV show last week, don't recall which one, where the two 'pros' were talking about ram scoops and that the scoop appeared on the first car, a Pontiac GTO?, in the 60's as a GM advertising gimmick, and that through the years that it has been shown to not have any beneficial effect. They also talked about it has having 'stuck' in the car communities mind/eyes for some years as being a beneficial addition to engines HP, despite any scientific proof, and that it has been having a 'comeback' of recent years.

that's true, because of carburetor , fuel injection is a different story, and even with a carburetor many racers figured out how to make it work with a bigger air area for reserve and some opened the back under the hood to get more volume on the initial flooring and of course the rubber hose connected to the bowl vents with the hole cut out in the middle. and the fact that the highest % of the fastest c6s according to the list have the vararam

A little fact is that the Internal Combustion Engine is like a big air pump and the engine will only suck in as much air as is the size of the TB, you cannot force more in that the motor is using. All the fancy hood scoops from the 60's up till now only ALLOW air to enter they do not force it into the engine for that you will need a blower. Connecting any devise to your carb or TB that will ALLOW outside cooler air will help make your car go faster. It's about being dense, the air not your head.

On my 98 Z28, my Free Mod to allow a freer air flow that cost me nothing gave me the same HP increase as did the fancy hood with scoop that GM installed on the SS model. If you look at the photo to the left you will see my SS hood. I installed it because "It LOOKS Cool" did not give me any more HP.

YES... EXACTLY!!!

I am stating a fact that your gains have absolutely NOTHING to do with Ram Air.

Your gains come from cold unrestricted non turbulent air!

Your air happens to have direct flow from a cold air source... Your receiving ZERO gains from RAM AIR! Your gains are all due to the cooler non turbulent air source!

And yes I find it funny that your unable to understand this simple fact. Although not common sense for most, it's certainly easy to understand and then apply it to your own common sense and personal reality.

Im willing to bet you would also argue that engines need back pressure to make power...? Just pointing out that simple minds are easily misled! Having a good understanding theory of operation will not only help protect you from being misled, it can also save you money and assist you in making informed decisions when selecting modifications. Understanding theory of operation will also aid you in making your own "do it yourself" modifications.

Just trying to help you understand where your gains came from and more importantly where they did not come from.

First off that's how naive you are, facts don't lie, the fact that the fastest c6's have the Vararam, that's not me just saying that, it's backed up by the proven results, now the common sense that you seem to have none comes into play to bust your statement, after the first 100 ft iat's would drop to ambient, or very close so your saying i picked up 5/10 and 5 mph in the first 100 ft funny the time slips prove that not to be true so now prove other wise dont just say it and expect people with experience to believe it.

Forget "ram" for a minute. The first thing I did with my '74 455 T/A was open the hood 'scoop' which they had closed for some reason or another on the '74. It didn't 'ram' anything, but transferred outside air to the filter vice the engine compartment air it was using. I opened the scoops--took out the baffles, on my 2000 WS6 T/A for the same reason but to increase cooler airflow which it already was getting to some degree. The difference, as anyone who had one of these cars, was amazing, and it cost nothing. The pinned shroud is the exact same mod: outside, much cooler air to the intake. The faster you drive the better the cool air exchange, if you will, when you get ambient temp air. The hp increase with cooler, therefore denser air is scientific fact. As I have said, the Vararam may be the best way to do this. And it will increase hp more than the shroud mod, but it is exactly the same principle. The cost difference is up to the individual to judge. To me, $400 vice $1.04 was an easy decision. And the much larger, free flowing exhaust you get from Bullets again can't be disputed. Cooler air in, greater volume and velocity exhaust out should be simple to understand. It makes significant hp.

You clearly make a case of "more money than brains"!

I never said the VR was a bad COLD AIR INTAKE... I never said your gains claimed where false. I'm happy you clearly have enough money to throw at your car and that it's as fast as it is even with your limited understanding of theory of operation of how your modifications have effected the performance. Hey, when you got money to burn your able to pay someone else to do your thinking for you... I get it.

All I can do at this point is smile and give you a big thumbs up... You have a sweet *** ride and I have to appreciate you made a great choice in owning a Corvette. However you clearly have no idea of theory of operation or how your mods work together. Just toss enough money at it and it will stick! This approach has clearly worked for you.

This is why vette owners have such a bad reputation with other car groups.

With money comes ignorance, the more money you have the greater the ignorance. They say it's "bliss".

And before you go on with your attempts to discredit me, I took the passion I have with performance vehicles and went into business with it. We (AIR RAM PERFORMANCE) have been in business since 2002 and have been very successful since. Much of what I know has been verified and proven at the track.

From that perspective a Corvette is a waste of $$$$$, since it only gets you from point A to B like most other cars. The point here is that a CAI allows the engine to produce more power than stock, due to cooler air being available. The only real world way to measure that, is with dragstrip timeslips. Just because you don't race, doesn't mean a CAI has no value.

Has no value for a DD at a cost upwards of maybe $500 when I can cut a hole for Free! It's just a LOT of people here and on other Forums I visit had No technical background so they tend to believe what they hear. I really do not care how much money anybody chooses to spend on their cars if it makes them Happy then so be it. I'm just one of those people that have been in this for a long time and I know better. That is all. Spend and believe whatever you like it's your car and your money.

I agree, if it can be measured at the track, it can be measured on the street!

It's not uncommon to see 2-3MPG increase for every 10hp gained.

Any time you can make your engine more efficient you will be rewarded with better MPG or ETs depending on where you like to use it.

I also agree with LS1121 that there are many FREE mods that can be done to increase performance... Getting fresh cooler outside air to the filter location is trick number one!

But I also know that the resonator (intake muffler) robs HP by creating turbulence in the intake which is how it muffles the sound... So removing the resonator and blocking the holes would be free but not as clean and eye appealing than an aftermarket cold air intake. So removing the resonator alone is worth 8-10 RWHP.

Unfortunately that statement presents ignorance in and of itself. Ignorance never creates wealth, short of blind luck. However, money is a stepping stone to cure ignorance. Learning from other people is not usually free and the more money you have allows for greater education. If having money was an indicator of ignorance, then people like Bill Gates and Warren Buffet would be dumber than a box of rocks and education would have a negative value.

Ok.. Fair enough... I should have made that statement more specific and not left it open general. But there are more than a handful of wealthy and not so wealthy people who are super smart but completely lack common sense...

ignorance is not a bad word... We are all ignorant on something... It's not knowing by choice... I'm not a plumber, if you had asked me to sweat some pipes together my ignorance on the subject would be made painfully clear.

I never put a monetary value difference between the $500 figure you state and the "Free" hole you can cut on your DD. This discussion is not based on the price of a mod, even though a product that performs better than a hole, also costs more than a hole.
I've been racing since 1958 and have an extensive engineering background, so I guess I'm not the young dumb rich kid you believe.

About common sense that unfortunately not too common. Even Einstein couldn't find his way home if he walked more than a block or two from his house.

Do whatever you feel you need to do to get cooler outside air to the air filter.
But do not change out the air filter for a high flow filter.

All high flow aftermarket air filters show a high accumulative gain in dirt ingestion.
While they increase air flow at high RPM, the filters used always increase dirt ingestion across the entire rpm range.

This has been proven with oil analysis (higher silicon numbers) and independent air filter tests.

you are so full of it, I did most the mods my self, I picked the mods I wanted and Cartek gave me some advise, and I did what I wanted done, as far as throwing money, my build was slow and steady, I never threw money or mods, and maxed each mod to its best et before going to another, and I got great discounts on the way, and free stuff and highly discounted stuff to test, I used 243 heads with the stock valves, Cartek did my heads gears converter and porting, cam fast intake and the great Cartek tuning, I have had most off dozens of times and I did it in my driveway, the shocks I tested, the brakes headers, exhaust highflow catts waterpumps vararams, the whole nitrous system, widebands heaters fuel cells msd dual stage rpm limiter, moving the battery to the rear the cables soldering the end eyes on, the trans cooler, all done by me. so I have a clue on how it works and how to do it and get it done cheap when I dont want to do it. dont avoid the question with your double talk and childish insinuations.
This is why vette owners have such a bad reputation with other car groups. are you for real?, but back to the question, if your iat is at ambient after the first 100 ft of the 1/4 mile with the stock intake filter then there is no difference in the delivery of the cold air in the last 1220 ft so just the cold air of the vararam in the first 100 ft nets 5/10 5 mphdont you sell an air intake, what is all this air ram stuff your screen name your store or the name of your intake system.

Perhaps I have been typing too many words with no pictures ... I'll keep is short...

Your gains came from:

COOLER, UNRESTRICTED, NON TURBULENT AIR.

Your gains did not come from;

RAM AIR

I hope that was not too much reading for you.

I concede at this point.
