All speculation at this point of course but....exactly how much improving or upgrading has to happen with a new car before you determine that it's worthy?

...and likely improved interior appointments/material quality...and likely more modern infotainment systems/ipod/ipad/smart phone interfaces...and 7 speed transmissions...maybe lighter weight and Direct Injection for even more stellar fuel efficiency to go along with that 450+hp...and so on, and so on.

Agh, this is a CORVETTE! The AMERICAN sports car. When a mid engine Corvette is designed, it will NO LONGER be a Corvette!!!!! 
With all the achievements and technology behind the current desighn, why change it and start over? With that being said, my C4 is still kicking serious butt!

All Ferrari Sports cars were front engined.
Ford AC Cobra one of the most fabulous sports cars of it's time.
The new Ferrari F12 has the engine forward of the passenger compartment. It is the most powerful and fastest road going Ferrari of all time. Their fastest road car around their test track. You are brilliantly correct, 100% touring car, not a sports car at all.
