Hope the engine deactivation implementation is better than what GM did on the L99 for the Camaro because it was a disaster. Had to tune mine out when after market exhaust was installed because it sounds like s*** when waking up from 4 to 8 cyls and it shakes like a chiwawa for a few seconds as well.
Will the LS3 continue production while this new LT1 is available???
Thanks for posting up!
Mininum 450hp is pretty much saying...475 hp found by the time the engine gets into the c7! IMO Nice torque numbers too....equaling the LS7 in early stages of the rev range..
Independent valve phasing would have extended engine and added mass–not worth the added benefits at this point.
Boo.
Keeping the C6 is sounding like my best option for now. After driving my coyote engined stang all year long, I don't see being thrilled by this engine enough to want to hurt myself financially to get a c7.
I'm guessing lighter weight like 3000ish curb weight and a disappointing 450ish whp and torque, good on gas though. Will still be very fast. 500+ reserved for C7 Z06.
Still a 6.2 liter mill. With the added tech and torque, they've only given a 'minimum' hp of 450 until the official C7 release. I'm guessing the final figured will be a touch higher.
If they came out and said 500hp, would you run out and buy a C6? If they said 500, with the improved torque curve, would the 427 models still be worth the extra ~20k to the average buyer? They still have a year to sell the C6.
12.5% HP and Torque over the LS2 or ~4% higher HP but wider torque band over the LS3 is still a significant step, and it has yet to be seen how well it will respond to CAI, Exhaust, Headers, and other easy to add mods.
"Other well-cited features include all-aluminum construction, higher compression ratios and a starting horsepower for the Corvette engine at well over 450."

Performance wise I AM going to keep my C6. Z. The styling of the C7 will have to knock my socks off.
Same here probably. But I am EXTREMELY thrilled GM decided to stay with 6.2, instead of downsizing. I would have hated that. Corvettes with bigger engines are always better.
And now the 427 may still be in play too, in years to come.
The new engine may be LT1 all-new, but the specs sure sound a lot like upgraded LS3. So if the C7 looks as good as the C6, I could be interested....
