Use your knuckles, gently. No oil, no fingerprints, no dust, and you still save 1.1 pounds.

I remember seeing articles about vents to release air pressure. Did they make it on the production model?

Yes. All the coupe models are equipped this way.

I don't have the trunk issue that others are having. I got my car today and the trunk closes just fine.

Anyone else on this forum deal with trunk issue?
Same issue as C6. Even though both it and C7 have a built-in vent system, I have found opening the door a bit completely allows air release and the hatch lid to properly close.

Hi Andrew,
I see you got your new C7. Is it white or silver?

I look forward to seeing pictures of the mods that you perform/install.

Even with your door closed? If your door(s) is open then it closes nice and easy, but if doors are closed, creates air pressure resistance... But hey people crack me up with this thread. I don't think it's a problem at all. I liken it to closing car door to soft. you just open the door and slam it shut harder... Can't believe this thread has lived this long hahaha

Hope no kids get their fingers crushed when they grab that handle inside to close the lid.

Well, no, my doors and windows were shut. But I'm not slamming the hatch down either. I'm just closing it as I would a regular door.

What am I missing?

It's basically the same as the auto close feature on the C6 except your palm is the auto closer.

You've got a composite hatch with a heavy piece of glass mounted in the middle of it. What do you think the result of "slamming" this shut hundreds of times will do to that structure over the life of it?
Open the door but never slam-it! If you could see in slow mo the hatch hinges bulging! Slamming the hatch is retarded!

Great instructional video. I do have one concern, though. My '96 hatch still has the original hydraulic assist pistons because I gently and slowly lower the hatch to within a couple of inches before using my palm to press it the final travel. I would think that forcing the piston down quickly from full open might lead to shorter lifespan of the piston seals.

And, on another note, it might be wise to remember those that have concerns about placing their hands on the hatch to close it for future reference when in the market for a good used C7. There are going to be some great, low mileage C7's lying around.

Well apparently your hatch is closing as gm has designed. The hatch area is suppose to have a vent that is pushed/ pulled open via a small memory wire when heated. The Body control module senses the hatch is the open position then sends voltage to this wire to change its size/ shape.

All of us posting here are saying the hatch is closing as if this does not exist....IE trying to push air/ hatch to positives pressure.

I see... Yeah, not having that issue at all.

that may be true, considering they added 9lbs or so (not exactly sure) to the seats in frame & foam material,( corvette blogger had a seat video) talking about all the changes and the added weight was one of them.

Back in 1987 I bought a Trans Am GTA and guess what it had a automatic closure, simple and no slamming. 27 yrs. later and you have to slam it . My C6 conv. has the same problem very hard to close the trunk.

So, then, how do you close the driver's door when you exit the vehicle? Don't you have to touch it at some point?

The vid seemed pretty self explanatory. The seals are new as well, so there might be some issue there, but it looked pretty simple and easy. I don't think 'slamming' is the correct description. Just use sufficient force and it looked like the handle worked fine. The car is designed to take this, nothing will break. It may take a little practice to get it just right.
