The handle allows you to pull the hatch down in one motion creating more momentum. There is no fan, there are vents that open when the hatch is up.

It would appear the amount of air displaced is more than the vent can handle but imagine how much harder it would be if that vent wasn't there at all.

Guys... this has been beaten to death since the C5. IT IS NOT NECESSARY TO SLAM THE HATCH SHUT. With the windows open OR closed, close the hatch GENTLY, then take your palm and press in the center. It will close and latch EVERY time. My 90 lb. girlfriend can do it.

Mine has to be slammed. Also my seal does not stick anymore and falls off on the trunk. They need to use better adhesive when they send the warranty replacement.

I don't think your high school physics teacher is going to back you up on this one.

You shouldn't have to touch the paint to close the hatch, that's ghetto. There's a reason for the handle on the inside.

They should have an electric pull down/latch like the C6s. That thing can't possibly weight that much.

Eight or nine months ago I brought up why didn't GM use hardware they all ready had in place to vent the interior when closing the rear hatch. Seems to me that they could have just had the computer lower the windows a half inch when the hatch is opened and then raise them after the hatch was closed. Just like the way the windows operate when you open the doors and then close them. I never understood why a separate venting system was needed on the C6 or the C7.

yes and it should be an option that you can configure in the setup of the vehicle - either on or off.

That's a pretty good idea, Joe. I agree.

does the C7 lower the windows pre-close?

If not, is it they want the wire to do all the venting on close?

I'm paraphrasing from my engineering source: The seals of the hatch area will take a set after a while (he didn't specify what "a while" is) and the effort should be dramatically reduced. You're experiencing brand new seals and they're fighting your effort to close the hatch.

The President's limo is airtight, don't know of any mass produced cars that are. The issue here is not the physics involved, rather why a fix is not in place on our flagship car as well as fitment and craftsmanship issues with paint, seals, and design. Forum members have suggested what appear to be simple solutions. Like numerous members have stated, it is a first year car and solutions will evolve with the car.

If the car was airtight there would be a warning sticker telling you they'd potential for suffocation.

Same for me. No pull down like the C6.
