Yes, the new engine that arrived with metal debris in valves was a bit concerning. I hope GM adds some type of Q/A inspection considering the metal debris could cause engine failure.
I'll ask them about that when I tour Tonawanda in July....

Who noticed the metal dust in the engine? Sounds like the service dept. If so kodos to that dealerships!

Yes, service noticed it and refused to install the motor. GM stepped up and sent 2nd engine Fedex P1 at a cost of $2,500 bucks. Please keep in mind these engines are 18k a piece!
Good to hear it got fixed quickly. Heh they all can have it happened, I had a Ford minivan in the late 90's that blew it's engine and was replaced under warranty. I worked in I.T and one of my customers was the plant that build the original Triton V8. They had a hundred or so tagged and bagged that had come back from warranty work sitting on the floor most times waiting for analysis.

$18K! That's even more than the quoted price for the last year C6-Z06 which was around $15K. Lotta improvements/additions to the LT1!!!
Glad your service man was alert and found the problem with the replacement motor. Buy him lunch. Hope they get you fixed up and on the road. If the second replacement engine works out, I would simply smile and enjoy the ride. No sense in grinding your teeth over something you cannot control. Best of luck to you.
When did engines become so darned expensive. I screwed up 2 Pistons in my 03 Cobra motor years ago. I paid $3700 for a new long block from Ford. Anybody who knows those cars, knows those engine were about as stout as they come. Am I missing something with these LS engines?
Too bad you had the failure, but excellent outcome w/service and now you have a new motor (essentially a new car).
While not the the perfect situation since buying the car, guessing if you should sell to a private party in the future, your story should not sour the deal nor would it affect a trade in if you stay with a GM.
Nothing is excellent or good or about a blown motor on a $70K car at the rate we are seeing them. Its a shame in these days of computer aided design and high tech robotics a company like GM would have such a high failure rate. The cause is this, poor supplier quality making **** poor parts so GM can save a few bucks per engine. I hope they all blow mine included. This reminds me of Cadillac in the 80s when the HT4100 V8s were being replaced on average of 3 per day at some large dealers, In fact some dealers had a special lane installed just for HT4100 replacements. NO EXCUSE FOR THIS!
