My VIN is just under 200 and was built on 6/22 or 23. My car was on a truck with other cars from all over north central Texas. It was obvious that they waited to have a bunch of cars from the same general geographic area before it was shipped out.
I understand there is a pretty large range in time it takes to get from the factory to the railcars to the destination. For example I've heard cars being stagnant at one stop/location for weeks to months.
The only one I am aware of that months would apply to was such an aberration that I (with no facts to support) feel it was damaged in the transport process. But as I stated, no facts just a feeling.
But rail has its own complications. If Corvette was 140,000 builds a year and 70,000 were to go by rail, I suspect it would be a less time consuming operation. But the Corvette is barely 1/4 of that - do you follow me?
Invoicing is strictly a paperwork event, not involving the actual car. During new model or model year startup, cars will frequently go in and out of Bayed status. My '13 427 Convertible went to Bayed status 4 separate times, based on the full 3 page OrderWORKBENCH document my dealer forwarded to me when the car finally arrived at the dealership, approximately 6 weeks after it was built.
Thanks for the reply Mike,
In and out of Bay Status 4 times? I would be going bat**** crazy

Just curious if you are referring to my order that sat in Toledo for a EXCESSIVE PERIOD while other orders to the same dealer passed mine to railcar and delivery to the dealer?

Did you ever get an explanation for the delay?
So normal words can not do justice.
My theory, conjecture I admit, is the status's bounce around whenever the build is flashed: every build has one of those bar things like you use wen checking the price of an item before checking out.
We never got an answer for the delay and dealer as far as I know didn't either! Our dealer agreed with us about just re ordering a 2016 and when the original finally showed up it was sold within a couple of weeks. We just could not clear the questions in our minds to accept it.
Actually went in and looked at it! Wish whoever purchased it enjoys it to the max!

Luckily, I didn't know The details until after the fact. Only that the car was caught up in the new model QC hold. The car also sat for 8 days until a full truckload headed to Montana was assembled and left the plant (this was in the '13 model year, when all vettes were transported by truck.) This was also before tracking threads were common in online forums. However, Ken Fitchner, my dealer, kept me in the loop, giving me status updates, as well as copies of e-mails between him and GM concerning the delays.
That's one reason I'm such an advocate of making your dealer earn his keep by keeping you updated on the order progress, as it moves through the process. Ken spoiled me.

Yup, Im a sales guy and nothing spins me up faster than a non responsive salesman. If I don't hear back in a timely manner we quickly come to an understanding. The Mrs. has more than once asked "did you give him the talk?" I make a point of responding to clients as quickly as I can even when it's only to tell them I don't have any information but I'm working on it.
Funny story, my father was away on business in Kentucky and on his way back he came up on one of the carriers holding 2016 corvettes on the highway in Ohio. The carrier pulled off for fuel, as did he, so he asked where he was heading. He said NY and turns out my car was on the carrier, what are the chances! Mine is the last stop so naturally its on the front of the truck. The nice driver also allowed him to take a picture of his manifest so if you are in northeast PM me and I'll send you some pics of your car is on its way...

Congrats to you short time delivery folks, MINE, blt 6/21, now 45 min from me, courtesy delivery dealer won't release without the window sticker (EYT fiasco) MacMulkin says they should release. How F&^%$d up is GM? I have a paid receipt for the car, wondering if I need to call the Sheriff to seize my property?
I have the GM President's office on the case, hope someone goes home tonight a different sex than when they came in.
And they are promoting the BG manager? The buck has to stop somewhere for the EYT option fiasco and the concurrent omission of the option from the invoice data base? And he's coming to Flint to manage a major assembly plant? LOL

That's funny. My courtesy dealer can call the cops, because I'm driving out of there with it tomorrow. All they care about is their fee.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
