Like an 8 Track......that you copied off your Teac reel-to-reel.....that you copied off your vinyl albums, that you played only once to copy it to your reel-to-reel.
Then yaou put your albums away and threatened anybody who even pick them up to look at the album cover.
Too many media choices in our short life times.
I never copied music from A reel to reel.I bought 8 tracks, cassettes, and CD's with music already on them from A store
You can buy a 2016 Corvette, and yet you don't know how to use a iPod? How is that possible? Do you still use pay phones? lol
Seriously, you can use a USB, or any type of media player. Do yourself a favor, and try not to use the MP3 format. And when you rip the CD to your computer, try to use the highest sampling rate that you can. .Wav or FLac files are the most faithful to the source material, with the downside being large file size.
(sorry but all of that probably went over your head...)
A cell phone isn't an iPad.I still use A clamshell cell phone.I don't spend money that's how I was able to buy the C7
A USB powered CD ROM drive isn't going to work. Those need more power than the C7's USB ports can supply. If you got a portable audio CD player (if anyone still makes those) you could plug it in to the 3.5mm audio jack in the console and listen that way.
But seriously, just copy things to a thumb drive (USB memory stick). It'll be much easier in the long run. You can get one for about $10. Way less than an iPod.

You got that right. Many of us don't have computers now.I have an iPad,
Can't hook nothing to it
Maybe they should sell sticks with music preloaded on them.
I see a new business opportunity here $$$
Just let me know what you guys want on a stick.
I just bought a Regal GS, so used to my C7 that when I looked at the infotainment system in the Regal I could not figure out what the slot was. A CD player! Wow, now when I get back in the C7 I am really confused.
There are CD ripping services which you send your CDs to and they will save it to media of your choice. A quick google search will list several. Alternatively find the neighborhood tech kid and give him a few bucks to rip them to a low profile USB stick.
I just bought a 2016 coupe and it does not have a cd player. Now, I do not have a mp3 player or an IPod but was thinking maybe a portable CD player may work..

Yes it will just plug it in the aux jacks ( through the earphone jack ) the same as my mini nano ipod and I still have my 1990's portable CD player !!!! Wayne
I use a 1tb portable hard drive with every song in my collection on it. It stays plugged in behind the screen and the artist/song/album info is searchable by voice or normal scroll through from the screen.
I think the drive needed to be reformatted to work... fat32 if I remember correctly?
We check out books on disc from our library for long road trips. I may try to load the discs on an SD drive and see if the publisher has put any anti-copy/security protection on the boxed set. Anyone done this?

use a double pin 3.5mm jack cord, jack into console and put infotainment in aux, i have done this and the sound is poor quality, i then put my music onto a usb flash drive, and only mp3 can be played back thru the car system. however to my surprise, the flash drive sounded pretty good, way better than the portable cd player. teddie

As a Software Consultant, I might be the wrong guy to make these observations but...
All I did was buy a low-profile USB drive (posted in this thread I think)
Copy my music to the drive using one of many applications... ITunes for instance...
(you need to use the application, instead of just copying the files because the folder structure is important)
.... plug and play?
I didn't even consider that it had any level of difficulty involved. I actually like that the C7 doesn't have any of that legacy garbage (CD players) on the console...
That being said... your probably best off finding a local tech kid, it should be a simple matter to 'Rip' a CD to a jump drive...
I have a 2016 Z51, 2LT coupe also. There are a couple of articles in the forum that tell you how to use a flash drive to transfer your CD's to it. When done, it will work in the USB ports in the console, or behind the screen.
The basics are as follows: I am using a 16GIG drive , and already have about 130 CD albums on it, with plenty of room left.
Insert a CD into your computer drive (I have windows)
Go to your Windows Media Player
Click Music
Below that you will see the CD album that you have inserted into your computer drive:
Double click that
Above you will see RIP CD
Click that and set to automatically rip CD's
Click Rip settings and check MP3 format and audio quality of 192Kbps
You hardly notice any decrease in the quality of the sound, in your car with these settings
This will get your CD copied into your windows Media Player
Remove your CD from the computer and insert a blank flash drive into your usb port on the computer
On the computer screen, click Start, then Computer. Double click the flash drive icon. Go to the media player and Right click Music. The CD's that you have in there will show. Right click the one you want to transfer to your flash drive, and click Copy. Go back and right click Music on the flash drive, and click Paste. Seconds later it's done, and on your flash drive, which you can then play in your car.
I'm sure that this seemed pretty long winded, but it worked for me with the help of others on this forum. I'm also sure that if I left something out, or wasn't clear, that someone more knowledgeable about these things will chime in.
I ripped a bunch of CD's while watching TV a few nights in a row.
They play just fine via the Center console USB.
The one thing I have noticed when sorting by artist it appears to not read the listed artist but arranged by contributing artist so I need to note the few odd ***** and edit.
FYI I copied cd music to a thumb drive.....then tried playing in my C7 USB port....no luck with that.....I'm sure there is a way to do this ....I'm not savy enough to figure this out. Cd player with the right cord would be great.....but like Jerry I don't know what cord I need...
Check your USB thumb drive format type. Pretty sure you need it formatted to FAT32. Should then work in both the behind the screen and console locations.
