I loaned my first vette out once after owning it for a few years. 93 days later i received the insurance check from my totaled car... Don't even consider it!

I consider myself to be a generous person. But at the same time, I do not allow myself to be taken advantage of. It was ridiculously inappropriate and rude for this guy to ask you to borrow your vette. It shows how little he respects you. I wouldn't reward this inconsiderate and disrespectful behavior with the timid response of saying "yes".

OH, HELL NO!!!! I usually make light of the question by saying "I'd give you my wife before i'd give you my vette" and no, I wouldn't give up either but its a way to show them in a funny way that you aint getting it.

Until my '17 GS it was an easy no, as all of my prior vettes were manuals, so it was an easy "have you ever driven a high HP car with a manual transmission?" 99% of the time their answer, no, was the same answer I gave them

I don't anticipate anyone close enough to me asking to borrow my car, but I would just politely say no.

OP, How does he even know which car you own? I know my answer would be no. If he has been invited to a celebrity wedding, my guess is that whoever invited him already knows what he normally drives. I just noticed the message doesn't say Corvette. My response would be sure come on over. I'd open the garage and say your choices are Ford Fusion or VW Golf.......Golf is tuned, lowered, and nice wheels.......so it might fall out of the choices also. Ahhhh heck, I'd just say sorry I don't loan out many things and definitely not my vehicles. My nickname in HS was Scrooge...

He asked what I was driving these days. He knows I've always had nicer cars.

I bet he'd tell everyone that my Corvette is his.

Default It's my one act of selfishness

I've been in sales, been a teacher for 37 years (this is my last year...) raised two great/successful kids and been married forever. Most of my adult life has centered around giving/sharing/listening to others either to sell, inform or foster. My car is my only vestige of personal property/privacy; you're welcome in my home, you can play with a damn nice surround sound system I've built over the years (used to sell and install home and car audio) but my torch red '14? I'll give rides.......

The only other people to drive this car have been my son (once), my mechanic Mark and the previous owner ('14 Vert I bought a little over a year ago). I don't justify it as fair or even reasonable but I'm comfortable with it.

Well.............since, so far, the review has been kind of undecided whether you should or should not let a former high school acquaintance borrow your Vette,
may I cast the tie-breaking vote and say NO!!!
As others have pointed out - that's a lot of nerve!

Actually, I have let stranger's kids (if they are clean, appear well behaved and have a parental unit present) sit in my car for a selfie. Anything that helps the next generation foster an interest in cool cars is good for the hobby and relevance of sports cars in general. I'd never let them wash it though....

This is my 3rd vette - my C4 was old - taught my kids how to drive in it, my C6 was new - only me and my wife (she only dove is a couple times) my C7 so far me and the dealership when I bring it in for service -

other people ask and as I said I just smile and say sure give me cash for the value just in case - they then decide not to.

Blame it all on your insurance company, tell him they won't cover any driver but you. Its probably true anyway. I don't loan my Vette to immediate members of my family, I don't want to be responsible for giving them the means to kill themselves or anyone else.

You don't know his driving record or anything. You better let him rent one.

"Well he's supposedly a pastor or some kind of religious background"

OP - Question - Why does a priest/pastor need to show up to a wedding in a HP car?
