The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
I think extended warranty or not is a personal preference and based on individual situations and specifically an ability to accept risk. While I have purchased them in the past for daily drivers I have passed on them for any of my toys for the primary reason being they sit for a majority of the time. Also, I have so many toys now that I simply added up all of the additional extended warranty expense and can finance quite a few repairs, even major repairs, at this point. Perhaps you intend to daily drive your Vette and just want the peace of mind. Mine is already in storage for the season and will be waiting for warm weather and dry roads before I even start it again. As you can see, an extended warranty for me just does not make a ton of sense.
- Folks will never really take the targa top off if they are just heading for a 20 min ride to the store, etc. only to put it back on when they get there. The reality is you won't really use the targa top that often on the coupe, even if you can remove and replace it on your own, which makes it a waste at that point. I would rather just have a fixed roof instead to increase rigidity even more and eliminate any rattles from the targa.
- Aside from the convenience of the power top, there is no comparison to the open air feeling you get in the vert vs. the coupe with the top off. The wind buffeting in the coupe is pretty strong but that is not the case in the vert. I drive 75 mph in the vert and it is fine.
- A surprising side benefit is that the vert is also quieter than the coupe when both have the tops up. You wouldn't expect this but is it noticeably quieter because the rear bulkhead/waterfall area reduces rear tire noise and the vert top is heavily lined and padded to as well.
- Lastly, the sound of the NPP exhaust with the top down as I row through the gears is worth the $4k increase in price alone.
If you can appreciate top down driving where you live, then the C7 vert is the one to get. It adds a whole other level of enjoyment to an already great Corvette.
That hood sticker is awesome btw
