Default AC problem ugg

Well it seems the actuator for the AC ductwork has dropped dead or at least that's what I'm told. The compressor works but cool air only comes out the A pillar, the floor and the defroster. If the air came out the four vents across the dash I wouldn't bother with a repair, but nooooo. It seems like it's one of the more difficult parts to get to being buried way up in the dash board. Has anyone had their actuator replaced and approximately how much time were you charged for? It's an $85 part that probably will cost a zillion in labor. TIA, Ron

Before you start tearing things apart, make sure that's the issue. Quite a few posts on AC here.

Yeah, if the dash has to be taken apart, labor costs will be expensive. Not sure if any trouble codes would be set, but might want to go to a local auto parts store that has a scanner and see what it says about the car. If a code is present, you will at least have a place to start.

Yeah, my air only comes out of the same vents. I thought it was an actuator, but I've been paying attention to what works and doesn't. You might take a few days or weeks to make sure you think it's an actuator. It could be in the end, but I'm still not sure. Plus, my recirc is stuck on outside air which makes it very slow to cool down the air here in Phoenix.

Same problem here. Mine is random which is why I haven't addressed it yet.

Hi all, it seems that with all the responses the best thing to do is take it to the dealer. But,,,, the last time I called my dealer to ask which fuse controls the on board port they told me to bring it in for a diagnosis. They wouldn't tell me which fuse! I found it myself. The discouraging thing for me is that Paul Koerner formally worked at my dealership and I had 1000% confidence in what he advised me, now he's gone.
This is why people buy Toyotas....
