All my senior citizen Corvette Club friends have Chrome wheels, regardless if their C5,C6' or C7's. I am the odd-ball. Have black on both my C7's. My second one in FL came used with Chromes.. Sold them to a younger guy who had black and wanted Chrome. I ended up with satin black on it and love them! I do think there are colors which look better without Black wheels, but GM has already covered that situation.
So if you look at the order guide you see 5-trident spoke machine face sterling silver painted aluminum, or as machine-face Spectra Gray-painted aluminum, or as black-painted aluminum (Accessory). No chrome anywhere in the order guide.
BUT, on the Chevrolet C8 configuration online there is a ULTRA BRIGHT 5-trident spoke wheel. Is that a highly polished, maybe clear coated wheel meant to satisfy those wanting something close to chrome?

This look should be a good substitute for those that like chrome... looks good. High polished was always a more appropriate wheel finish on a modern sports car than cheesy chrome.
One of the main reasons according to GM is the chrome process has difficulty with the EPA. We all know that a suppliers provide the chrome wheels but GM says they are in the liability line. I have seen paint that you couldn’t tell the difference from plating. I know for sure that the day the first C8 rolls to a consumer there will be chrome wheels waiting from the aftermarket.

LOL you cannot truly believe this! They can't come out and say it's tasteless and cheesy and offend some of the buyer so this is a safe way out!
I have NEVER owned ANY car (much less a sports car) with chrome wheels, but this silly hand wringing about chrome wheels is just pathetic. Somehow, some on this forum feel as though chrome wheels on a Corvette says something horrendous about Corvette and ALL it's owners. How about this.....I don't like BLACK wheels....I think they look like just plain old dirty wheels....and I am happy for ANYONE who likes them to BUY them. I don't think less of them....don't think they're Fast and Furious fans (although they may be which is FINE)...why is how ANYONE chooses to equip THEIR Corvette such a zombie apocalypse deal ????
PS. My 2014 C7 came with the standard 5 spoke silver wheels. I had the wheels powder coated black with machined spoke faces and lip (like the 2015 "machined face" wheel option). I thought they looked great, proudly posted pictures of them....and some guy wrote that the look was OVERDONE, OVERPLAYED, and looked like the wheels that come on a Hyundai....
Well I disagree. My big ole chrome wheels are the reason I bought this torch red Z06. If it had been black, UGGGGHH wheels I would have passed. Sorry guys I am old school and yes I still can get in and out of it and still have the 7 speed manual tranny.
Its still the best look, love it. Like you say black wheels are Yuk. Was at corvettes at Carlisle this year and spend some time in a few hotel parking lots in the evening, bright wheels ruled for sure. Pics of my two cars
Chrome is an older generation fad and this new vette was obviously not marketed for them.
Actually, black wheels were an older generation fad, back in the '50s. Kinda like fart cans on imports were ten years ago. Many things are cyclical. If fashions stayed the same, hustlers wouldn't be able to make money by convincing people that what they already own is "dated". And when they run out of new ideas, they recycle old ones.
In the early 60's, many people dumped their stainless steel kitchen appliances for "avocado". Later they dumped avocado for black. Guess what's back in now?
This argument is as old as the black wheel fad! There are sooo many threads about this. I really like the chrome on my silver z-51 but have thought about going black. Trading it in soon so not making any changes. I don’t think they will look as good on the C8.

Holly smoke! They surely cost more than 3 months salary for an engagement ring.

There are a lot of things that are “tasteless and cheesy” including some people’s vocabulary. However companies are in the business of making money and will sell whatever people want. I’m not a fan of chrome but I am a fan of profit .

Machine faced wheels are by far my favorite wheel. Nice wheels! I am surprised they are not more popular.
My base 2015 also has silver wheels, if you don’t mind me asking, how much did it cost to get those wheels machine faced?

NEVER!!!!! Chrome or polished wheels on everything I own. Why would someone want expensive black wheels you can't see?
I'm 68 years young and not too lazy to clean my wheels. Flame on boys! LOL
