Just got a message to update the software on the car regarding the transmission control unit and check engine light. Anyone else get the update request and install it yet??? Any issues installing it???
I have no idea how any updates will get to my car. It's not on WiFi and I don't have OnStar activated. Do I go to the dealer to get updates?
When you have your car parked in garage, you can connect your car to your home's wifi network... If you don't have a home wifi network you can connect to, turn on your cellphone hotspot, and connect your car to that. If your cell phone doesn't have a data plan, drive to a nearby Starbucks and try to steal their free wifi while you sitting in their parking lot

This is all wrong.
No WiFi is involved in OTA updates. Neither is an OnStar sub required.
GM communicates with our cars via "connected services" which utilizes cellular tech. They push updates OTA to anywhere there is cell reception.
Not proven, but it is thought GM does updates in batches of VIN's. So just be patient if you haven't got a notification yet.

I have it on wifi. That part is easy enough.
