ISRA Press Release:
Survey Results Show Gun Owners Do Not Support Gun Control And Don't Trust Politicians

SPRINGFIELD, Ill., March 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following was released today by the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA):

A weekend internet survey conducted by the ISRA reveals that gun owners solidly support the right to keep and bear arms and overwhelmingly reject gun control schemes currently before Congress and the Illinois General Assembly.

The survey was accessible from the ISRA's Internet page and was also distributed by way of the ISRA's e-mail alert service. In all, more than 4,500 individuals responded to the 50-question survey over a two-day period. Of those 4,500 respondents, 97% reported that they owned at least one firearm.

Survey results indicate that recent gun control proposals are not very popular with gun owners. No less than 99% of respondents expressed opposition to banning AR-15 style rifles. Similar majorities oppose banning AK-47 style rifles and other semiautomatic rifles, pistols and shotguns.

Proposed regulation of ammunition also failed to garner support among those surveyed. A full 99% of respondents oppose limits on how much ammunition a person could buy. Similar numbers oppose registration of ammunition purchases, microstamping of cartridges, and ammunition taxes to pay for crime victim medical bills. Contrary to what is reported in the media, 98% of gun owners surveyed oppose limits on the capacity of rifle, pistol and shotgun magazines.

Background checks were also unpopular with those surveyed. Results show that two-thirds of respondents oppose background checks on private gun sales – even if the government was required to destroy all records of the background checks.

Much of the gun control movement's standard wish list found little support among respondents. Gun owner licensing met with 95% opposition while both gun registration and mandatory liability insurance for gun owners are opposed by 98% of those who took the survey.

The ISRA survey results also revealed some significant credibility gaps as witnessed by the fact that less than 5% of respondents feel that the police could protect them from crime. Less than 8% feel that gun control effectively thwarts crime while less than 20% of respondents feel that gun control organizations are acting in good faith. About 90% of respondents feel that politicians who promote gun control are only doing so for political reasons. The credibility of the press took a hit as 97% of respondents feel that media is biased against private firearm ownership. Less than 1% of respondents identify with the policies of big name gun controllers like Rahm Emanuel , Chuck Schumer or Michael Bloomberg .

The survey results show that personal safety was an important issue to respondents. Just over 80% of respondents feel that they could become the victim of violent crime while about half feel unsafe travelling outside their neighborhoods. These concerns most likely drove the 99% support for allowing law-abiding citizens to carry defensive firearms.

"We've been a bit skeptical of the reports in the media claiming that firearm owners support gun control," commented ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson . "Although our poll was not strictly scientific, it tends to support what we know intuitively. That being that firearm owners stand strongly by the 2nd Amendment while eschewing gun bans, licensing and registration. We are happy with the overall results of the survey. We did find it unsettling however that about 75% of respondents say they feel less welcome in the United States than they did 5 years ago. Sad, but given the current political climate, those feelings are understandable."

The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. For more than a century, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

Urgent Alert For Illinois Readers

The Illinois State Rifle Association reports that vote on a magazine ban will come up today in the Illinois State House. It will come as Amendment 12 to HB 1156.

This amendment would make it illegal to "to knowingly deliver, sell, receive, transfer, purchase, or cause to be delivered, sold, received, transferred, purchased, or possessed a large capacity ammunition feeding device." A "large capacity ammunition feeding device" is defined as a magazine, etc., that could hold more than 10 rounds. Tubular-fed rimfire rifles and lever action rifles would be exempted from this definition.

Of course, this amendment contains exemptions for those thought to have a higher need to possess a "large capacity ammunition feeding device". Those include cops, the military, and Hollywood. It also contains a provision that would allow the manufacture of magazines so long as it was for cops, the military, and Hollywood. Under the amendment, manufacturers could also make magazines for sale out of state. I call this the "merchant of death" provision given the proponents of this amendment consider these magazines much too deadly for Illinois residents to possess but don't give a big rat's *** what happens outside the friendly confines of the Prairie State.

Read the ISRA alert below and act accordingly.

House Speaker Michael Madigan and his gun-grabber pals have just reintroduced their magazine ban as Amendment 12 to HB1156.

THIS MAGAZINE BAN WILL BE UP FOR A VOTE ON TUESDAY

If this ban passes, you will have to go down to the police station and register your magazines that hold more than 10 rounds and you will have to sign an oath that you will never sell them to anyone else.

GUESS HOW MANY CRIMINALS WILL BE REQUIRED TO REGISTER THEIR MAGAZINES? THE ANSWER IS ZERO!

Of course, sales of new magazines holding more than 10 rounds would be BANNED.

It’s very important that you make these calls. We realize that you’ve been called upon to act many times so far this year. But your continued support is crucial. Madigan and the gun-grabbers are hoping that you will get tired of defending your rights.

MADIGAN NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT WE WILL NEVER GET TIRED OF DEFENDING OUR RIGHTS!

HERE IS WHAT YOU MUST DO TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO KEEP AND BEAR ARMS

1. Call your state representative and politely tell them you are a law-abiding gun owner who objects to magazine bans. Politely advise them to vote NO on Amendment 12 – the magazine ban. If you do not know who your state representative is, then the Illinois State Board of Elections has a new interactive search page here:
http://www.elections.state.il.us/Dis...ByAddress.aspx

If you know who your representative is, you can find their contact info here:
www.ilga.gov/house/.

2. Post this alert to any and all Internet Bulletin Boards or blogs to which you subscribe.

Springfield Report -
Message from NRA Lobbyist Todd Vandermyde, 3/20/2013:

Another day, another debate. Yesterday the house spent almost 3 hours debating amendments to the carry bills.

A reworked magazine ban with a "grandfather" clause was filed. However, you must register yourself and your magazines with the state police. The State Police have unlimited rule making as to how to enforce is which could mean fees and or anything else they want, like fingerprints.

Staff had indicated late Monday that the magazine ban would be part of the special order on firearms on Tuesday. Your calls and our lobbying efforts thwarted that as they did not call the ban for a second vote. We believe they failed to call it because your calls are making the difference and they are still short votes.

While leadership is attempting to twist arms to find votes, your calls and emails are making the difference. Keep it up. We know that hearing that there is an impending vote at any minute, gets to be frustrating only to have the vote not take place. But such is the nature of the beast that we are forced to deal with. Chicago politicians control the process and can move things at a moment’s notice. All we can do is try to keep you, the members, informed as to the latest happenings at the capitol.

The fact that they schedule the magazine ban for a vote then don't follow through is a testament to your effectiveness and fact that you are among the most dedicated Second Amendment supporters in the country. The fact that you have held back the Chicago machine should be a badge of honor.

Keep it up and keep making those calls. Together we will prevail.

Not sure if this poll has turned up in this great thread. If it has my apologies for the dupe. It's a link to a NRA survey.....or an Obama who owns guns tracking site.

URGENT ALERT – YOUR ACTION REQUIRED

GUN GRABBING REPRESENTATIVE TO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETING – YOU NEED TO ATTEND

WHAT: Town Hall Meeting Held by Rep. Deb Conroy

WHEN: Tuesday, March 26, 2013, 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM

WHERE: Glenside Library, 25 East Fullerton, Glendale Heights, IL

Rep. Deb Conroy is living up to her promise to be Mike Madigan’s loyal stooge in the 46th District. Although she’s only been in office a few months, Conroy has racked up a record of disgusting indifference to the 2nd Amendment. Conroy has voted to leave you defenseless against violent criminals. She has voted to register and tax your guns. And she’s voted to ban and confiscate 85% of the firearms held by law-abiding citizens.

IT’S TIME DEB CONROY HEARD FROM GUN OWNERS

It’s very important that as many gun owners as possible show up for Conroy’s town hall meeting. When you get there, be sure to make your voice heard. Let Conroy know that you will not take the blame for crimes committed by raving lunatics, gang bangers, or hardened criminals. Let Conroy know that you vigorously oppose licensing, registration and insurance schemes. Let Conroy know that you demand to be allowed to carry a defensive firearm for the protection of your self and your family. Remind her that her constituence is not limited to Mike Madigan.

Be sure to wear IGOLD hats or shirts to the town hall. If you see members of the media there, approach them and tell them your story. Tell them that you are a law-abiding firearm owner and that you are sick and tired of people like Conroy and Madigan and their schemes to take your guns away from you.

CONROY’S #1 JOB IS TO BRING CHICAGO-STYLE GUN CONTROL TO THE ENTIRE STATE OF ILLINOIS

The only thing that can stop people like Conroy is the resolve of gun owners who refuse to let Conroy and her pals destroy the 2nd Amendment. So, plan to be there at the Glenside Library on March 26th. Plan to be there no later than 5:15. The gun grabbers will try to close the doors early to keep gun guys out of the meeting.

PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING:

1. Pass this alert on to your gun owning family and friends.

2. Post this alert to any and all Internet blogs or bulletin boards to which you may belong.

3. Be sure to be there on March 26th!!

URGENT ALERT – YOUR ACTION NEEDED

REPRESENTATIVE RITA MAYFIELD TO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETING ON CONCEALED CARRY

VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU ATTEND

WHAT: Fact-finding town hall meeting on concealed carry.

WHEN: Wednesday, March 27, 2013, 5:30 PM

WHERE: North Chicago Public Library, 2100 Argonne Drive, North Chicago

WHY YOU NEED TO BE THERE: Rep. Rita Mayfield is holding this town hall meeting to gather information and citizen opinions regarding concealed carry legislation now pending before the Illinois House of Representatives. She needs to hear the truth about concealed carry and needs to hear what an effective concealed carry bill will look like. YOU CAN BELIEVE THAT THE GUN GRABBERS WILL BE AT THE TOWN HALL MEETING SPEWING LIES. Our message must rise above the din of anti-gun lies.

WHAT OUR MESSAGE HAS TO BE: Our message is simple – the only bill we will accept is HB0997. Rep. Mayfield needs to hear that we will not accept unnecessary burdens on our right to self defense. She needs to hear that we will not accept “may issue.” She needs to hear that we will not accept gun registration, mandatory insurance, or unfair fees. She needs to hear that we expect the General Assembly to comply with the court ruling in a good faith manner without advancing the gun control agenda.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO ADVANCE CONCEALED CARRY:

1. Show up to Rep. Mayfield’s town hall meeting. Get there by 4:45 to ensure that the antigunners do not block you from entering. Politely convey your views on concealed carry to Rep. Mayfield. If you see reporters there, be sure to approach them and tell them your story.

2. Pass this alert on to all your friends and family... tell them to attend the town hall too.

3. Post this alert to any and all Internet blogs and bulletin boards to which you belong.

Would he have been able to have a gun at work as long as his employer didn't object?

You can use deadly force, don't know if you do so using firearms?

"You can use deadly force, with no duty to retreat, only if you reasonably believe that such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to yourself or another person, or to stop the commission of a forcible felony. You can defend your dwelling, with no duty to retreat, if the entry is made "in a violent, riotous, or tumultuous manner." You can also defend other property with deadly force to prevent or terminate trespass or criminal interference with property or personal property in your lawful possession, the possession of your immediate family or property you have a legal right to protect, if you believe such force is necessary to prevent the commission of a forcible felony."

GUN GRABBER REP. MARTY MOYLAN TO HOLD TOWN HALL MEETING

YOU NEED TO BE THERE

WHAT: Anti-gun extremist Rep. Marty Moylan Town Hall Meeting

WHEN: Thursday, March 28, 2013. 6:00 PM

WHERE: Des Plaines City Hall, 1420 Miner Street, Des Plaines

Madigan’s most reliable gun-grabbing pal in the northwest suburbs will be holding a town hall meeting on March 28th. Gun owners need to show up for the town hall and let Moylan know that they are not going to stand idly by while Moylan and Madigan destroy the right to keep and bear arms.

IT’S VERY IMPORTANT THAT GUN OWNERS ATTEND THIS MEETING

If you cherish your gun rights, be at this meeting. Be sure to wear IGOLD, ISRA, or NRA hats or t-shirts. Bring a list of tough questions for Moylan. Don’t let him soft soap his position on gun control. Don’t let him hide behind words like “reasonable,” or “common sense.” This battle is about constitutional rights, not what makes gun grabbers feel comfortable.

PLEASE PASS THIS ALERT ON TO YOUR GUN OWNING FRIENDS AND FAMILY

PLEASE POST THIS ALERT TO ANY AND ALL INTERNET BLOGS OR BULLETIN BOARDS TO WHICH YOU BELONG
