Poetry in Motion: Building Corvette’s LT4 Engine

LT-4 engine

This is probably the closest most of us will get to seeing the full build of the new Corvette Z06’s LT4 engine.

Well, that is unless you work at GM’s Engine Plant in Tonawanda, NY, where humans and machines work together to adroitly co-produce the 650hp V8. Or I suppose you might also be one of the lucky ones who can afford to pay $5,000 for the build-your-own package at the Corvette assembly plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Either way, the enthralling video below, posted by Speed Academy, still provides an interesting look at all the intricate work that goes into constructing GM’s most powerful engine ever. From the creation of the engine block to the torquing of the LT4 engine cover, the 11-minute vid pretty much covers it all, including a brief history of the storied engine plant.

However, keep in mind, most of Speed Academy’s videos are intended for tutorial purposes, so the clip might not convey the same kind of excitement that it would if a die-hard Corvette fan was narrating.
