Default A-pillar tweets....the easy way.

those of you with component speakers may find that having the tweeters in the speaker plate with the woofers makes your high end rather muted (especially the driver's side where your leg blocks most of the high frequency sound) Even with angled mounts the tweeter usually ends up firing streight into the door and all the highs will sound like their coming from the passenger side (without a passenger of course)

this is what I originally had:

After reading several threads on tweeter placement i decided the A-pillars were the best option for me. I don't know much about fiberglassing and wasn't really jumping for joy at the idea of re upholstering the entire pillar so i decided to mount the tweeters in the very front of the A-pillar to minimize the amount of fitting. There's plenty of space under the A pillar mount for even the deepest of tweeters, althought there is only about 2 inches of mounting surface.

Always listen to your new location before you actually Cut

The A pillars apparently pop off very easily (just make sure the metal tabs also come out. On my 97 they tended to slide off the plastic mounts.

I decided to use angle mounts (mostly because I lost the flush mounts but also because I wanted to minimize windshield reflection. A regular pencil can draw on the vinyl to mark your cutout. (the same size as a you would normally use to mount your tweeter.

I used an exacto knife to cut the vinyl away along the marked circle. You may need to remove some of the staples on the bottom section before cutting. The entire cutting procedure can be done with a dremel tool if you don't have a hole cutting saw drill-bit. Mount the tweeter like you normally would and run the wiring.

*for wiring, i suggest leaving about 1-2 foot of wire to make running it easier*

If your crossovers are mounted outside the door, the wire length required for the new mounts should be the same or slightly less than the wiring required for your old mounts. if youre crossovers are mounted inside the door, you'll need more wire.

remount the A pillars making sure all the tabs are in place

Finished product

Don't forget to re-tune your Xovers and EQ settings.
enjoy.

Default I want AUX, not just IPOD

I want to add AUX input for my garmin 496 GPS with XM radio and weather.

I have a 2002 Corvette Z06. I had a factory CD changer added back when the car was almost new. I don't care if I have to disconnect the CD changer, I don't buy CDs anyway.

I want AUX hook ups and if I can get it - IPOD.

Thanks,
D.

Default Loose the changer & get a GM10-Aux

The easiest way to get aux inputs would be to take out the CD Changer and get yourself a GM10-Aux. If I were buying one I'd get it from here or here.

You can do some wire cutting and keep the changer, check out Post #9 to see that link.

Looking at the image of the area where the old head unit used to go, I have a few questions.
1. Is there just the 1 multiplug that plugs into the rear of the old head unit.?
I have the 2004, and have the DELCO head unit, without cd changer, but i have an amp in the trunk, on the drivers side,

back to the multi-plug, does that carry all the switched power, permanent power, antenna, display lights, aswell as the all the speakers?

Is there any different head units that were fitted, I read some where that there are BOSE head units fitted,
I only have BOSE speakers.

So many questions
Thanks guy's

There are 4 plugs in the back of the radio. You can see the pin outs for them in post #9 if you look at the plug schematic pages 3 and 4.

I think you may be looking at either the receiver for the tire sensors and key fobs, or the control box for selective ride control (if you have that). There aren't any amps in the back, unless something changed after the '01 model year.

For your other questions, what is it that you're trying to accomplish?

How do I get the acc power for my h/u?
if you look in the passenger footwell, pull out the cover and look in the top left corner. There will be a small plug with three wires (orange, yellow, & black) that are just taped up. Check out this schematic to see which fuses they use, but the yellow wire is the +12V switched, and that I am sure of.

or you can use fuse 22

What is the orange one for? and is fuse 22 switched or constant?

Orange is always hot, Yellow is switched. Look here to see the fuses.

I would imagine 22 is switched or they probably wouldn't have suggested it.

Which wire in the 9-pin harness supplies the power to the Subs? I am hooking up a SVEN2 with the SVHGM4 harness to my new pioneer HU. Peripheral said that I need to get power to the subs by either connecting the subs power wire (blue) from my Pioneer HU or a 12v power from a fuse to the Pink wire in the 9-pin harness. Is this correct?

Default Fuse Locations Of Fuses for Passenger Side Footwell Acc and 12V Constant

Thanks to Mr. Bill Curlee, I can post this information for future reference:

The yellow wire is fused at the instrument panel fuse panel with fuse# 11 (assry/off) 20 amps

The orange wire is fused at the instrument panel fuse panel with fuse# 7 (c/ltr) 20 amps

Black is ground

This info was specifically solicited for a 1998 C5 convertible, but it may be accurate for other/all C5s.

Thank you again Bill.

I just finished my install this past weekend. It took some time, but I think it payed off. I put in a Pioneer Avic D-3, bluetooth, Ipod, and a backup camera. It's late, so I'll just post the pics. I'm too tired for a full write up. I used SEM texture coating to make it match and Krylon Fusion-Satin Black 2421 for the final finish.

Default Aftermarket head-units which CAN control the stock GM 12disc CD Changer

I've done some research, and the following Rockford Fosgate head units CAN control the stock 12 Disc GM CD changer. They are older models, but someone may have some for sale on ebay.

RFX-8102
RFX-8103
RFX-8030
RFX-8115
RFX-8120
RFX-8130
RFX-8140

The C5 Audio FAQ should be updated to include this info.

Default Perfect Rear Speaker Size

I just installed a set of Infiniti Kappa coaxial 6-3/4" speakers in the rear (C5 coupe). It was a perfect fit. No need to modify or fabricate ANYTHING. Just use the phillips head screws that come with the speakers instead of your stock hex head screws. Also remember to use the foam tape.

They sound great with the Infinity 475A (90x4, 2ohm) amp.
I just hope that I have as much luck with the Infinity Reference 6x8 components when I try installing them tomorrow in the doors.
