hey guys im havnt a problem with an aftermarket h/u thats in my 97 c5. for the car to start i have to turn on the h/u first before any power will go to the starter. also none of the preset are saved. can anyone point me in the direction to get this fixed??
That is definitely not a normal kind of problem with stereos. where did you hook up the head unit power? sounds like you happed into something wrong to cause this type of an issue.
I'm thinking of changing out my stock Bose HU to an Ipod oriented HU still deciding on which way to go on a budget, but my question is is it difficult to change out just the HU? I'ts an 02coupe. Oh by the way i have never even taken a radio out of a car before so any info would be greatly appreciated.
the rear speakers in a coupe should you run new/aftermarket wires to them or is the factory wiring sufficient?
for most applications the stock wiring will do. its largly a matter of convenience. if you are running your rear speakers off deck power I would probably use the factory wiring, its already there. if you are running an amplifier for them, I would run new wires since the factory wires go to the wrong place. that's what I did.
if you choose to use the factory wiring for the rear speakers you will either have to tap into them, cut off the connector and extend them or buy an adapter since the factory wires have a special connector on them which is not going to be what you have on your aftermarket speakers.

so the amp's for the rear bose speakers are in the factory head unit correct? so with an after market deck wiring is just that simple?

Just about. there are 3 amps in the car, one for each of the 8" woofers in the doors, and one built into the head unit. the singal for front and rear leaves the head unit as a pre-amp signal and goes into the Bose signal processor which does its magic on the signal and sends the woofer's their pre-amp low pass signal. the front and rear high pass signal then goes back into the head unit where it runs through the amplifier then out to the front and rear "twiddlers"
to get proper sound while using the stock wiring you need to have a high pass filter on the signal going to those speakers of course, but any decent head unit will have one built in. most amps do as well.
okay so if I want to run new wires to all the speakers in the car and simply run them off the new deck then can i remove the big bose control thingy under the driver side dash next to the pedals?
After looking for years, I finally purchased a 58 Vette at the Hot August Nights show in Reno. After getting my new love home, discovered some hopefully minor, if there is such a thing on a classic,
that the wonderbar radio doesn't work and thinking it may be something as simple as a fuse? Any suggestions?
Also hood release lever extremely hard to pull and sometimes only releases the left side than I have trouble shutting the hood back.
Again, any suggestions?
I realize these are simplistic for most of you but hope you can help.
Thanks in advance.
I remember in the 80's that equalizer booster were the main thing instead of amps. They had the toggles to adjust the sound of the music and some had a sort of lighted bar lines that beat to the music. Are these out of style now because of better amp? Can you still get them with decent amps and good sound???
I just finished my install this past weekend. It took some time, but I think it payed off. I put in a Pioneer Avic D-3, bluetooth, Ipod, and a backup camera. It's late, so I'll just post the pics. I'm too tired for a full write up. I used SEM texture coating to make it match and Krylon Fusion-Satin Black 2421 for the final finish.
If you have any questions about something I did, ask away.
Great Pics! I like what you did but I am a novice at best. What grade of sandpaper did you use? Do you know of any other threads doing the same step by step? I would like to do the same in a shinning black or maybe the same color of my Vette (Pewter). Thanks for your help. Jeff
