There are many pretend audiophiles and those that would like to pose as one. The Bose system although not the best is just fine and a decent system for car audio.
Bose is so bad even a "pretend" audiophile knows it. I suppose if all you ever had to eat in your life were hot dogs and dominos pizza you might say that that diet was just fine and was decent.
Bose is just utter garbage, cheap paper speakers made in mexico and a weak and worthless amp.
Simply put, the Bose system in the C6 is "adequate." With some tweaking of the tone controls it can be made to sound fairly decent with a good CD. With XM, it almost always sounds muddy regardless of how it's set up.
Bose can make good car stereo systems. I have a Bose in my Audi and it's not bad at all...much crisper sounding than the one in my C6 with a better sound stage.
If all you want is some background music, the Bose in the C6 is fine. If, however, you really want to listen to music, the Bose has some serious shortcomings.
The base stereo system in my 08 Impala has a fuller richer sound than the Bose system im my 08 Corvette. Don't know if it has to do with the cabin design or the speakers but the highs are crisper, the midrange is fuller and richer and the bass is deep and solid!!
I think the Bose system sucks. It's almost an embarrasment when you see the Bose name and try cranking up the tunes with the top down.
I've been a fan of Bose through the years. In fact, I have two Bose home speaker sets which have been great workhorses. The system in my 05 is terrible.
The Bose systems in my Avalanche and Envoy Denali both sound significantly better than the system in my Vette. Even the factory Monsoon system in my H3 Alpha sounds better than the Vette.
Is there a subwoofer in the Vette? The lows sound much weaker than my other GM Bose systems.
Anywho…doesn’t really matter cuz the LS3 makes all the music I want to listen to when driving the Vette.
Kind of..by the time I put in the sub, the enclosure, amps and rack, I figure its like 125-150lbs. Thats why I am really starting to question it. Also like I said, I could be half way to the blower with all that cash.
Bose is great! Take your equipment back for refund and put that towards your blower. Much better investment
I certainly understand the desire for great sound in a car but I loved driving even when all I had was a crappy AM radio. That is what counts the most to me and why I now have a Corvette.
I;m sure the new stuff will blow the bose out of the water, I am just having a little buyers remorse I think. I am concerned about the weight though...any thoughts on that??

Doubt you’d notice a performance difference on the street…even if it was 100 lbs.
Unless you plan to track (drag) the car…100 lbs will cost you a tenth in the quarter.
If Bose spent half as much money on R&D as marketing, then they could produce products that make music. I'll spare you the details, but at the end of the day, you can always get a lot better product than Bose for less money.
Although the Bose is adequate to me, it certainly isn't wortht the price charged and I think that's the rub. I say adequate because it's almost impossible to get great sound in an Auto because of the environment.

I find it somewhat arrogant and condescending when someone bashes the Bose system after many members post that they like their Bose system or at least find it adequate.
The Bose system is adequate. It does not suck or is at awful. It could be better as just about anything in the world can be. However, those who believe they are audiophiles and expect great sound in a automobile are posers or at the very least a bit dim-witted.

Personal attacks do nothing to enhance your opinions.
This is a topic that gets periodically recycled. Conclusions are pretty much the same. Given that the auditory range is different among folks it is no surprise that some folks like or think the Bose is adequate. It is what they hear. Either they would not hear the detail available from only replacing the speakers or the difference would be SO slight as to be not worth it to them. For others the information available in the treble and midrange would be noticeable and enhance their experience dramatically. And to them sound may be a highly weighted variable in their driving experience.
XM aside(you probably need to throw more funds at that), for those that think they would like some improvement without spending lots of dollars might want to consider replacing the speakers (some are not pricey) and fiddling with disconnecting the dash speaker. Adjusting the bass and treble with the above mods for me provides a noticeable difference in CD and FM. Would I like a Bose system that sounds as good as the Bose system in my Infinity FX 35? Yeah. But it turned out I liked 410 gears, heads, headers, cam, underdrive pulley, fast intake.......etc. more.

Odd how some try and turn the tables. Here you make a point about how others are arrogant and blast the Bose system after members have said they like the system. Yet, somehow the tables are turned on you.
I have decide to install all of the gear I purchased...the bose does sound fine, but this stuff will sound much better and be much more versital. I am still concerned about the weight, but am looking into lexan and fiberglass enclosures to solve that problem(and talking to doug @ecs about a blower to help make up for the weight)
No need to argue guys, we are all here for the same thing...some like it, some dont', I think the ture account of the system is that it is ok..It is not audiophile grade stuff, but it isnt all that bad either.
You obviously decided you wanted something that sounds better than the OEM Bose system. Not a bad decision and $3K is not too outrageous.
You could reduce the weight a bit with your sub box. 3/4" MDF might be a bit of overkill for such a small box. It needs to be rigid/non-resonant but you could achieve this with thinner MDF or very high quality plywood (Baltic Birch) by redesigning your box to include some internal bracing.
Either way I don't think you will notice the weight difference.
I spend significant money on audio gear and I'm always trying to improve my system. When my father and brother come over, I ask them to listen to my system and give me their opinion (the point of this thread). My father cannot tell the difference between a $1k CDP and a $20k CDP, but my brother hears a large difference. Everybody hears differently and everybody has different audio desires/expectations.
My father would say the Vette audio system is "adequate" and my brother would say "it sucks".
