Hi, folks, I am looking for opinions. I am thinking about putting the '69-'76 "Stingray" emblems on my 1980 corvettes fenders. I kinda feel like Chevy just stopped bothering to put them on, and I am just fixing their mistake by putting them on. Opinions?

No emblems on an '80, but are the '76 Vettes So different from the '80's that the 'Stingray' emblem was removed? In other words was it removed because they look nothing alike? What's with the angry *** smiley?

That's my flame suit, protection from the anticipated flaming to come.
As you know,, this subject has been here, many times over. I have a 'Vette that says 'Stingray'- so what? If it didn't, I'd put the Stingray badges on mine. to me, personally, that last of the original body lines that GM called 'Stingray' left with the changed rear glass. That's my opinion, influenced, no doubt, because mine is earlier then this change. from a technical point of view, the changes were just cosmetic, with the major redesign in 67 changing the Sting Ray to a Stingray. the problem with the name is GM didn't put any extra equip on except the name. So it had 2 names. then they took one off. Technically, you'd have to ask GM, If I'm asked, it's just that my opinion... didn't mean to offend any one.

Check the archives. This subject has been beat to death.
If you think it's a Stingray, then it's a Stingray.... you don't need 'badges' on it to say so. Doing so wouldn't bother me, but I can guarantee that the vast majority of Corvette owners [folks that you will meet at every car show you attend] will ask you, "Why would you do something like that?" So.... if you really, really want it to have Stingray script on it, it's your car; do what you want. But you'd better have a thick skin to shield you from all the 'cr@p' comments you will hear because of it.
Yes, it's been beaten to death but maybe the original poster didn't know that as he is a a relatively new member and the archive search function ain't what it use to be, in case you haven't noticed.
Majority of the people who will look at the car, except for some Corvette folk who get hung up on such things, are not gonna know. It's their car, do what they want with it and don't give a hoot about what anyone else thinks. Others don't like it, too bad!
On the flip side, the OP did ask for opinions and got them which each is entitled to. But bottom line, do what YOU WANT.
I have 63 Emblems FI on the side of mine, I have a 76 "Corvette" rear emblem, 62 Fuel Injection emblems on the hood. I did it my way.
I'm a purist so I'd leave the name plate off. BUT I also believe that it's your car and you can do what ever you like to it. I'm 100% NCRS, BUT I have 69 side exhaust on my 71 (and have had them since the car was 2 weeks old) because that's the way I like it.
I'll REALLY stir this up with a pet peeve of mine!!!
The cars are Stingrays, not SHARKS. Stingrays are not sharks. There was a Concept Car called the Mako Shark. Some of it's styling found it's way to the 68 STINGRAY. The name Mako Shark stayed with the Concept Car.

Alan
By the time it got to '80, the body style had so changed it was no longer a Stingray. It is, however a Corvette, no longer a Stingray though.
By the time '77 rolled around, the emblems were history. C3s are all basically the same body style, that's why they're classified in the '68-'82 category. So I say do what you want with your car. Personally, I prefer the clean look.
