Hi Buddy,
What is the last picture? Are they your reproductions?
In the picture they look VERY good. They have the 'clear' look of the originals not the 'milky' look that's coming on re-pro lids now.
You may be on to something here!
Regards,
Alan

Thanx Alan,

The second picture is my cover with the new rivets in it. One is the machine finish and the shinier one is flame polished. I think the duller machine finish may be closer to the orig??????

I need to have a pro look at them so I can finish. I would also love to see what an original looks like from underneath.

Thx
Buddy

Here is a picture of the bottom of an original plastic rivet. It is discolored due to age but $tingray supplied the shielding and it is from a 40,000 mile 70 convertible of which he is the second owner.

It looks like the center is domed with the edges flatened out a bit. Maybe as if a round metal piece with a concave center was used to melt the end. Does this make sense and what is the diameter of the dome?

Can you speculate on how it was done?

Thx so much for the pics..

Buddy

They are slightly rounded. I measured them the best I could and came up with the following. They are rounded and sit 1 1/2 to 2 32nds higher than the steel washer. It looks like it is 1 32nds thick at the outside edge. and they have about 1 32nds of a flange larger than the steel washer looking at them from above.

Hope this helps, Wilson

What do you mean no interest. I for one would be happy to purchase a set of your rivets. If you are looking for verification of "correctness", try the NCRS tech discussion board.

Hi Buddy,
I'm still interested.
I haven't had a reply from the fellow I wanted to look at them. Perhaps he's away. I'll try him again tomorrow.
If you start making them how many are you going to need to make to have the project make some sense. About what do you think they'll cost?
Regards,
Alan

Buddy, go on the NCRS web site and try and locate a local chapter and see if they have or know of a master judge. He should be able to validate the rivets for you.

Buddy ... Do you have all the pics you need? I have an original '70 coupe, and would be happy to take some for you if you need them. Just let me know.

Thx everyone, right now they are being made by hand. I am also working on a tip to melt the back with. Until I get a large order like 1000 pcs they will be $6 each which will be a rivet and a washer. The tips will be $5. I can probably get them down to $3 or $4 with a larger order. I hope that sounds reasonable?? I do have them available 'as is' now.

Thx
Buddy
