Rog, Im really thinking about doing a 1970 trans am next. I really like the Lucerne blue with the white stripe. Im thinkin a stock outer body with some nice 18" honeycombs and a fire breathing LS motor underneath.
Problem is I gotta find one first. They are pretty rare.

It's a masterpiece!
annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.......
WOW....I never realized that round headlight Trans Ams existed in the first place!
You definitely like to do Easy Things the hard way....LOL!
Great progress. I'm interested to see your electric wiper conversion you mentioned.
Cool gauges. I've got the same for my build except I've got the red lights not blue (my car is red). Can't wait to see them in my car. If you get a chance, add a few more interior pics.
DG, Ive loved the round headlight T/As since I was a kid and built several models of them. I was never into the Bandit trans ams, but the early round headlight ones always caught my eye. Im still lookin for one.
CWerner, The electric wiper conversion is the one available from Ecklers. Im not exactly ecstatic about it( its kinda fiddly) but it seems to work ok. I will post some interior pics once I get the door panels on and finish the seats. My seat backs dont have the pass thru brackets for the seat belts so Im building them from scratch. Got one done today, tackling the other tomorrow.
BTW, CWerner, I did this little mod for my VHX gauges that you might consider. Since I'm using vintage air, the small chrome vent close **** is no longer used and installed as a dummy. I built a small bracket behind the dash that holds Switch #1 for the VHX. There is a small spring pushing the vent **** towards the driver so you have to push it forward to contact the switch. Makes it handy and unobtrusive. Switch #2 I put where the wiper override used to be.
I have also been following along and am inspired by your work. Adding the photos of what has been done along the way is great. I also liked the detail of your exhaust system.

I am installing vintage air in my 76. I have LEDs in the autometer gauges which are too bright, so I got a small PWM box to regulate them. Looking at your setup, it might be possible to mount the box behind the vent pull ***** and then twist them to turn the pot. In the box. I don't have my car here yet, but you may have inspired me!
Insanely cool build, btw.
Seats are now recovered and I finished the seat belt modification. I had to fabricated the steel slot that the seat belt passes thru on the seat back. I also copied the original by welding in a steel bar that the belt rides on to prevent fraying. Once those were done, I put on some new foam and installed the 100% leather covers from Corvette america. Nice covers and they went on well. I mounted the seat belt retractors on the wheel tubs with a large 3/16" steel plate underneath with the nut welded to it. The plate will spread out the load of the seat belt across alot of glass, just like the factory does it. After that, it was road test time! I dont have the top on it yet so it was a bit chilly but it sure was fun! The LSA ran great and the only problem i could find was the right front tire rubbed a bit on the inner fender. Once its aligned, that should go away as it has a bit of negative camber with no shims installed on the front a arms. I celebrated by heading over to Henderson Performance and putting it on the dyno. After a few tweaks to the fuel curve, the LSA put down some good numbers. 497hp, 520 ft lbs to the wheels. Not too shabby for a crate motor.
Now the big job is to refab the convertible top. Took it apart today and bead blasted all the components. Now gotta prime and paint and install a new top.

Don't modify an original 70 Trans Am, do a clone. And put a Pontiac motor in it not an LS. There are a lot of options for big Pontiac power.

Well, the Vert is just about done. Ive finished the interior, plus installed a new soft top from Corvette Central. Nice top and wasnt too difficult to install. I also took the entire convertible framework apart and blasted/painted all the parts. I watched the Al Knoch video on top installation and it went without too much difficulty. last up was the modification/creation of a decent engine cover for the LSA. I started with the 2 piece cadillac cover, attached the 2 halves permanently, then glassed the entire cover with 3 layers of 6 oz cloth followed by a final layer of 1.7 oz cloth. Im using west systems epoxy resin. Once sanded down, I primed it with K36 several times followed by wetsanding of increasing grits until finishing with 600 grit. I then sprayed it body color (2013 Porsche midnight blue). Once the base coat cured, I taped off the front and freehand drew the C3 crossed flags logo. I cut out the frame and sprayed the silver, followed by filling the areas with black, white and red by hand. Once it all cured, I layed down a coat of PPG2002 clear to finish it off. Now waiting on a nice sunny day to take her outside and gets some pics.
