Its about time ,some good news,i was getting worried with all this negative reports being said about these transmissions.ive been hearing it on other forums too.another guy on here on (5 speed trans )post the last guy posted he didnot like the tremec,so he doesnt drive his car anymore. I hope its just these people that dont know how to shift a car. Thanks for the good news Josh.

Is it similar to the shifting in a T56?

Default Old Turbo 350 tranny

Hello C3 guys. I have a 78 350/350. I just changed the rear end, bought the ecklers 4:33 rear end. Now I just got back from My first trip out to warm up the rear-end . My tach and speedo are Way out. What do I have to do to correct this. Take it back to a tranny shop ?
Thanks, Wood I .

The one I drove with a TKO 600 was different than the Hurst/Muncie como that I had, but I did not think it was bad by any stretch of the imagination. Just a little different.

I got CF dual friction on Friday and a new bellhousing which I did not know I was going to need. As always with these cars, one thing has led to another and I have to order yet another few parts before I can go back in with the Tremec.

What have you guys done with the extra speedo cable now that you add and extra 18" to the length? Six feet was plenty long enough. How did you route it? I am almost thinking about buying a new cable from Keisler or have someone make up the length I need.

It is similar to me. I don't have any issues shifting the TKO600...maybe because I drive a T56 all the time.

Ahhh, I see. I understand how it could be hard to get used to shifting then. My daily driver has a T56 in it, when it's cold my reverse lockout doesn't always work and sometimes I find reverse when going into 5th.

I hope it goes OK for me. I've only had trouble driving two cars - my 83 F250 (shift gates - what are those?) and a 92 Prelude with worn linkage.

I had a couple good days in the garage. I only had a few short hours but I feel like I got alot done. I had to replace the oil pan gasket which required repainting the pan and two days to cure. Today I got the flywheel, new Centerforce DF, and the bellhousing installed. I got the long speedo cable figured out and installed. I will get back to the transmission on Thursday night or Friday. The drive shaft will be here Wed or Thursday.

Hopefully I can be driving by this weekend or early next week. I know we all had to wait for these transmissions but I think it will be worth it when we are crusing in a few weeks.

I think the TKO 600 is the better choice. It's gear ratios, in the first four gears, are very similar to the stock Muncie M20's (wide ratios) that were the common place stock C3 tranny. The TKO 500 has a much larger (numerically larger) first gear. Some people feel that you'll hit the red line so fast in first gear, that first gear is not useful.

Both the TKO 600 and 500 have a fifth gear of 0.64:1. I bought the TKO 600. I used to cruise at 3000 rpm at 70 mph. Now 1900 rpm. Much more comfortable.

I think the TKO 600 is much more expensive. It's rated at 650 foot-pounds of torque. It's a nice tranny. Shift throws are short and very smooth. The TKO kits don't come with a gear shift handle (mine didn't). Volunteer Vette makes duplicate shift handles for the TKO's. They are forum sponsors. About $89.

There are two versions of the 600. The 5009 has .64 and the 4618 has .82 overdrive. I ordered the 4618 and have almost 500 miles on it so far. The 5009 was too much of a drop from 4th to 5th to be useful for me in anything other than long freeway trips.

You should open up a separate thread for this, but the gearing shouldn't have an effect on your tach. Your speedo, however, will require new speedometer gears in the transmission. A good parts guy should be able to help you figure it out. There are also plenty of speedo calculators on the web.

Take a look at this site for speedo gears.http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm
You need to change your speedo gear in the trans to fix your speedometer error.Consider your tire size also if you changed your tires from the stock size......Aloha's

I'd just like to know what's going on with mine... info would be nice. Haven't heard anything from them since they took the paid-in-full info. (They haven't charged my CC either. Just want to make sure I'm not being treated like an unpaid account. I gave them clearance to pay it off back in March)

I'm still waiting for a call back from 2 weeks ago. I think they're ignoring me now.

Have you tried calling again? I've never gotten a call back in all the times I was promised one. But they always answer when I call.
