Thank you for listening to me, Tony. That brace has to be very precise to locate that 3/8" hole through the body and hold the ends of the front bumper. It also with the center bracket, holds up the whole heavy nose. Like I said, there is another small bracket (extension) that bolts to the end of the "dog leg" brace. The 68-69 one is off set. The 70-72 one is like a U. Because the 68-69 brace is lower, and the extension is off set, if you hit something, Like a car bumper when your original calipers leak, the front bumper will bend upward. The 70-72 brace and extension are in line with the hole in the front bumper outer nuts. If you bump something, the force is straight back. Don't ask me how I know This!!!! Lou.
Thanks Lou.....since the car is a basketcase resto-mod I'll take what I can get and make it work.

I'm working on this area right now; freaking heavy so I took it out in installments.
Those headlight assemblies are HEAVY.....I need to support them since I sat the body onto the chassis.

"Small Blox".......(there.....I fixed it)
I spent the day trimming and re-installing the radiator-cold-air-intake and finish-welding the radiator support/still needs foam air-gap seals.........
I'll try to install the frame/bumper extensions and the lower crossmember either tonight or tomorrow.
I just will watch what you are doing. You definitely stay busy on it...that is for sure.
DUB
Thanks Dub.....I know I wander from your directions/I need to keep a copy under the car with me! I moved the crossmember assembly to the front of the car, but too tired to install it tonight.
The washers that you used when installing the front frame extension and bumper extension have teeth on the back edge so they BITE into the steel. HOPEFULLY you are USING these type of washers. Regular flat washer I guess would work...but if you stop and think about it...this area is IMPORTANT and you DO NOT want any chance of movement.....EVER!!!!
Don't forget Tony leave everything loose so you can line things up a little easier. Just a thought!
R
I'll do that......Right now I'm just test fitting everything since the car didn't have a crossmember for a few decades....I wanted to be sure the frame hadn't spread apart from not being supported.

I'll order/get those special washers along with the small bumper braces.....
I managed to install the crossmember......but I had to remove the radiator and support......then re-install the support by itself and fit it to the crossmember......................
The radiator is held to the support temporarily with zip-ties while the fitting is done.....I'll fab some brackets to permanently hold the radiator inside the support.

Zip-ties are good! What's wrong with zip-ties? Bubba sez you oughtta just leave them zip-ties right where they is! You did get them from Zip-tie Corvette didn't you? Them is NSCR original! You get extra points for them! Leave' em Tony leave 'em!

I need to go to the garage and clean up after working on the frame/radiator support/lower crossmember until 10 p.m. lastnight......
it seems that half my mechanic tools/air grinders/extension cords/air hoses/welder are surrounding the front of the car!
I also need to remove the headlight assemblies to get some weight off the nose of the car since I will be out of town.
Will be back in a couple (hours )
Annnnd another thing.......after replacing the body mounts/installing the correct crossmember/fabbing a correct dimension radiator support.....the fiberglass clip sits 1" higher above the wheel wells!

Better than too low after you cut your springs. Good luck. Everytime you find somethng like this I go check my car to make sure it looks like its supposed to. Glad you're still chugging along. You should be drivng that baby by the end of the month at this rate.

Tell me about it! I cut the coil springs last year....so it actually helped to lower an inch in height.
Now to try and return home from the Gulf Coast.....I-12 had water creeping across the Interstate westbound lanes near Slidell Louisiana around 6 p.m. Saturday afternoon!

Just read through this superb thread over the last couple of days. Joined up from "over the pond" in the UK as I'm seeking an 80-82 Vette. Good friend of mine had a 70 coupe a few years back and the chrome bumpers certainly do look the business !!
Your work and commitment to this project are amazing, very impressive and an example to us all on what can be achieved with strength and determination.
Well done and looking forward to seeing this one as it progresses !!

Thanks bigfella70.........I'm actually doing the resto-mod BACKWARDS. RVZIO and other Members are doing their "builds" the correct way.
The idea was to keep the car drivable while I was repairing 'sections', but with the PTSD------that idea hasn't happened since I lose anywhere from 3 to five months at a time not being psychologically able to even go into the garage ( )
Annnnnnnnnnnd I am learning everything about repairing Corvettes from the C3 Forum, which helps a lot.
Tomorrow I'll try to wrap up the frame/radiator support work so I can finish the body work on the Rear Bumper Conversion/Tail Light Clip replacement.
RATS! I was at my father-in-law's doctors today/ALL day......he had multiple tests run even though he was only having a lingering respiratory problem checked.
We'll know more tomorrow........until then the car will remain on jackstands......
It's a good thing I took the advice on positioning the jackstands to prevent the frame from sagging!
I did manage to take some weight off the nose before I left this morning.........

I've been "laying low" on the build this week. We've been at the doctors with my father-in-law every day this week dealing with what we thought was a possible case of pneumonia.
WE were shocked to find out he has stage 4 lung cancer.....we had to tell him the bad news tonight that there is no medical treatment that can be done because of his age and the pacemaker he now has. It was a rough 5 hours.
It's a good thing my PTSD has slacked off......I will be able to helps as much as possible while my wife, her two sisters aand brother help my mother-in-law make necessary plans.
(But....we're not giving up.....God has the final word on this situation)

Sorry to hear that bad news. I had seen this '68 project message thread before, always amazes me what others are capable of that I'm not. Makes me think I might have a chance of replacing the radiator myself at least.
My mother had cancer and we just never lost hope. She was always very optimistic, happy, but I knew there were bad times for her too and she wouldn't let us know. Can be an emotional roller coaster, for sure, just think it's important to have faith and keep going, not stopping until its just plain impossible. Seems like everyone would be better off not thinking about the bad things, leaves more good things to think.
