After 24" of rain in two days.................................

my Mother-in-law's little home is still high and dry...............even though I need to enclose her carport (before winter), the Vette is wrapped tightly to keep the rain out...............

The rain is "scheduled" for another 24-48 hours............the Interstate that goes near our own home is under water and closed until further notice.....flood stage near our home is 42'. It's a good thing our home's land elevation is 52' !

Where there's a will......(it's been posted by other Members/it fits our situation).......................

That's all for now.................................

Damn Tony, see what you can do about sending some of that San Antonio's way, we are suppose to get some tomorrow but I don't trust the weatherman, I think he's full of crap personally.

Tell me about it.......my brother-in-law and I were talking about it yesterday----the U.S. really needs a Louisiana/California Water Pipe-Line similar to the Alaskan Pipeline. It seems so senseless for the western states to be in years of droughts while we have to use boats to get to our homes in the Gulf Coast. There is always enough excess rainwater down here to supply you guys throughout the year.......America is expected to rebuild every other Nation but our Politicians won't help our own States. (As soon as someone figures out how to get rich with a waterpipe-line it will happen).

If the oil companies would clean out ONE pipeline and donate it to the task, it would be great!

Of course we FINALLY get some rain today, it was after I spent 2 hours cleaning the Challenger to go to a car show. I was headed there when the skies let lose (wasn't suppose to rain until later tonight - of course we all know the weathermen are full of crap ), so I turned around after getting soaked - THEN it stopped raining

Good idea.....that would cut the cost! OOOOPS......on the other hand.....Your idea makes too much sense for the Politicians to "buy it".

Airborne............"You called it" in your post before daylight this morning!

EDIT: My wife just got a call from her sister in south Baton Rouge. The neighbor was taking a boat with him to rescue his friends and their children who are in the attic of their home as the floodwaters have them trapped. The police would not let the guy with the boat go into the water------------because--------THE CURFEW IS BEING ENFORCED!

I realize the police must enforce the Law.........but.......sometimes Common Sense should "kick in".

I hope it stays that way for her.......it looks like Maurepas will be one of the last cities to see the floodwater

This home is near our former home near Denham Springs, La............

As for me.......I originally had 10 feet to spare according to the last major flood in my area.......NOW they are calling this a 500 year flood...........I hope the Maurepas Indians didn't get soaked in the year 1516 A.D. ! My 10 foot leeway may dwindle down to a foot or two by Monday afternoon

Oh well..........the Vette project is on higher ground in another city.....with a 30 foot levee between the car and the floodwater.

Here it is 0335 and still not a drop since yesterday morning, according to the weather man we weren't supposed to get any til last night so I thought it was safe to wash the car, then it rained in the morning, hasn't rained since. I need to find the weather man and kick his butt, well if it's a weather woman just take her out for dinner if she's cute

I needed that! My brother-in-law took me across the Miss. River to my home in his 4 X 4 truck......we were barely able to get to my home....it is now on it's "own little island" along with about 10 other homes.

That TEN FEET of leeway on the flood waters that I talked about yesterday is now THREE FEET of leeway before our home gets in trouble....Will be back later with pics.

Good luck with your home. Maybe you should put the vette project on the back burner and start an Ark project.

Did you take pictures? If not you should have, that's a good selling point, you are high and dry in the 500 year storm, that will give buyers peace of mine

Thanks Calo...........my sister-in-law who lives in the front part of our neighborhood just called and said she has an aluminum bateau tied to the doorknob of her back door---so it won't float away. Her swimming pool disappeared an hour ago.

At 7 p.m. our house is still on an "island".......but the island is smaller now.

(Still not as bad as most homes in the area.....a mile from us only their roofs are showing)

Excuse my ignorance of the area, but are these the same houses that have been hit with the last two tropical storms?

I called my friend in Maurepas. Her cell didn't work, but the house phone did. I asked her if they were fishing from the back porch or shooting Alligators..

She said that only the local roads were flooded, but not her house area. Her place of work, however, is probably flooded.

She's supposed to fly out here in just over a week. First Delta was F-ed up, now floods!

Yes/same homes......but most people got the "usual floodwaters" that hit south Louisiana in the past (similar to "usual lake effect snow" up north). This flood has really outdone itself.....most of those same houses have 50% MORE floodwater to deal with.....(our previous home that was classified as a "no-flood area" now has water up to the roof-line!).

Tonight will be "exciting" until daylight tomorrow when the flood should crest in our neighborhood.

We're waiting on an update through Facebook from neighbors about the flood level around our home since we are staying/taking care of my wife's mother who is now unable to walk.

MSGT-R......it's good to hear that she is dodging the flood.....the water must be "spreading out" into all the small creeks as it goes farther south.
