Thanks Andy.....the old spine is pain-free, but the back muscles where they were cut to access the vertebrae are really sore now. I'm taking today off to let them recover.

Meanwhile......here are two pics of the door edge where I'm wondering if the door skin has been "miss-repaired" previously leaving the fiberglass too thin/easily able to separate from the metal door frame........

How hard is it to change 69-up doors to 68 door handles. Cuz doors are too cheap and easy to find to justify major work to bad ones.

I would think it would take molding a "recessed pocket" for the push button......and cutting a notch in the top of the door for the door handle.

If this door can't be repaired I'll go with your idea...Thanks Derek.

DG,
***In my opinion***
The door looks fine...and does not look like I have seen before. The reason is that there is actually some fiberglass from the outer skin going past the point of where the steel inner structure stops....like your arrows in your photo show.

The doors I have seen will look like someone ground on the edge and ground it back til it hit the steel...thus...making the door narrower in total length.

I do agree that making 1969 door look and function like a 1968 door is...in my opinion....cost ineffective and pointless due to the amount of work required to make it happen. It would be easier getting a 1968 door instead.

Thanks Dub. That's a relief that I don't have to repair/replace the door. The passenger door edge looks the same.

P S...............the spine is great/right leg no longer paralyzed, but the incision is painful/Dr.Appoint. tomorrow to make sure it's all O.K.

In the meantime whilst the weather is good......I added another 40% to the rear of the Vette garage. The beadblasting cabinet/the portable Hurricane generator/the air compressor/the Harley Davidson/the drill press/the restroom/etc will all have a new area. It had become so cluttered I could not walk around the front of the car!

I will remove the wall that supports the A/C/then place the A/C in the new rear wall.

"Just do NOT lift anything that weighs over 20 lbs."

As soon as my back muscles start feeling tired I hit the shower for 30 minutes and take the rest of the day off.

(After being paralyzed for a couple months I'm not going to "poke that bear with a stick"!)

So the addition is going to be on deck-type floor instead of poured slab? So it is more workshop space than vehicle space?

LOL.....with the slope of the back yard the slab would be 2 feet thick if I added any more to the length.

Yep Derek.....strictly work/storage space because of the platform (which was designed to support up to 4,000 lbs.). I needed a quick addition because of the rain/monsoons. I will enclose the outside of the platform to keep the critters from making a home under the floor.

I'm hoping to finish the roof today before the rain hits So. La. again.

(By the time I work my way to the front of the car I should have a good idea of how to bond those fiberglass pieces you sent me!)
