Doing a great job.

If I may comment on something that I see...that I want to let you know about...so you do not run into it later and then have to spend even more time on an area that you are trying to get finished.

In the photo below...the black painted/primered area above where you applied what looks like VPA. I would tell the guys who worked for me to remove all of it. Sand all that black and primer off and get down to bare glass.

That way...any hidden stuff under it that you may not know about does not cause you to go back and then have to apply that area completely with a layer of VPA to fix it....thus making you go back and work on this same area again.

Thanks Dub......I remembered what you said.....I sanded the concave area along the bottom of the quarter panel until all the old black paint was removed/also sanded away everything close to the concave area to prevent filler overlapping onto old paint/primer. All the areas like the one you pointed out will be sanded away.

Just trying to keep you from having to do something again. Glad that you remembered what I mentioned....because I forgot I had mentioned it to you.

I hope you understand that I mention so much stuff....keeping up on what I mention to every person is about impossible.,..so I may repeat my concerns like a broken record.

EXACTLY! I found my Corvette Binder with lots of good advice entered into it. Dub's advice on using Filler and using Adhesive were in it.

(The Binder, unlike me, has a much better memory!)

Holy smokes....some of what I say actually made it into a binder. That is scary. Some members would feel that you are feeding my own ego and arrogance with that statement.

Seriously.... I am GLAD that what I have mentioned to you and other members have helped you/them out.

Well, you have made quite a few people happy with your assistance. They are all happy to make you happy by being made happy... And truth be told, for every person you help directly, there are countless other people find and use this information later.

I know that I will =) I am already creeping on dozens of bodywork threads. Just waiting now for the temperatures to get to the point where I can actually do work.

DG - I just took a few days getting caught up on your thread. Great work! Have you tried out your powder coater yet? How is it working for you?

Great work on the fiberglass on the rear valance! I like the templates you made to keep both sides even.

Don't push it too much DG... After all that pain you went through I'd hate to see a relapse. The car can wait, your health way more important.

Thanks Navy_ The powder coater works great/I just have to bump the gun every few minutes to keep the powder from building up inside the "bore".....I probably have to output set too high

One of the other members advised to preheat metal that has lots of crevices so the powder will spread evenly.

Since I am rebuilding a basket case I will powdercoat all metal parts that have lots of rust to protect them better.

The templates really help me since I've never done body work before...I'm getting everything as close to even as possible so the Painter will have an easier job smoothing out my repairs.

I may repair the door gap on the driver-side today since it does not involve lifting anything over 10 lbs/per the doctor.

Is it possible to put too much powder on something, or does the excess powder just fall away when you get sufficient powder on it?

You can absolutely get too much powder on something but it is pretty difficult to do. It isn't like paint where you will get a run if you load up a certain area. With powder the heavy spot tends to flow out into the surrounding area when it is baked so it is tolerant of a slightly heavier coating.

Ideally we want a 2-3 mil coating. There is a trick where you can use an LED flashlight on the part (has to be LED). For whatever reason this shows up the areas that are not covered well enough like a beacon. I generally go with powder until I no longer see any of those spots.

I got a bit more body work done on the driver door. There were bulges and dips everywhere since I replace the rotted body mounts.

Tomorrow is body filler day.

Thanks Dub. I've done some "rough-in" work for lack of skill.

I'll post some pics tomorrow of the door edge for you to advise me. You mentioned that previous bodywork people have removed too much fiberglass from the edge of the metal/door skin bond. I think my door has that same problem.

Boy Tony some of what you are now doing looks very familiar. I know Dub will chime in but you may want to get rid of some more of the black paint on the rear quarter. Might just be the angle of the picture though!

Fun stuff!

Will do. Right now I'm trying to keep the ADHD under control by working on small areas. The door is now flush with the quarter panel (except for a few dips that need to be filled in). I also need to "straighten" the door gap after I build up the wide spots. It's Kinda" wavy at this point......Live and yearn/learn.
