Doorgunner's '68 Convertible Project

Remember...the car was a basket case when I
I bought a "quality" $15 clock that uses a watch battery (good for 5 years).
I removed the original mechanism and installed the "quartz" movement / installed the original needles......I still need to "install" the **** for looks.......
I also added an extra 12" to the wiring harnesses that feed the instrument cluster for ease of maintenance.
TAAAAA DAAAAA !
The $100 I saved went toward new S.S.Trim Rings for the wheels

I’m not restoring mine back to all oem so it doesn’t matter to me.
I just want the clock to work and quartz replacement seems the only way to guarantee it for any length of time.

until you order new parts and compare them.
New trim rings compared to 50 year old trim rings...........
I also convinced my back to bend enough to finish the access cover for the gas tank sending unit.............
I will install rivet-nuts and machine screws to hold the cover in place. Some silicone sealer should fill in the corners of the floor opening.
I also picked up the vapor canister and vacuum-operated purge valve since my DIY tank is not vented.

The canister is more of a safety measure to keep gasoline fumes from building up in the garage.....
Vacuum operated canister.........
The DIY tank has 10 gallons of gas in it...I will add another 5 gallons tomorrow and give it 24 hours to see if it has any pin-hole seepage
(I pressure-tested the tank before installing it using a soapy water solution to find and weld any pinholes).
The good news is...it takes only 5 minutes to drop the tank if repairs are needed.

While I was at it the 7 y.o. paint on the calipers/rotor/ frame needed a fresh coat..........
The rim got a good scrubbing and a couple coats of gloss black...never did care for the green tint.............
Now to turn those faded R.W.L.s white again.
I need to pick up some fuel resistant 3/8" rubber hose to connect the vapor canister to the steel line at the firewall and to connect the canister purge valve to the ported vacuum on the Holley.

BACK to the garage to install the charcoal canister temporarily on the firewall until I clean/repaint the engine bay. (There IS a strong whiff of gasoline in the garage with the open line from the gas tank)
My Mom always told me it is good to be different.
I guess you and I are the only ones who really know what looks best!

50 y.o. actuator............................
Spotless on this side/no failures.................
NOW we have a problem. with the opposite half of the actuator................
There is a 3/8" long tear at the area where the rubberized glue has just been applied.......
You can see the rubberized glue on this side that has been wire-brushed and painted....the threaded rod is also broken off at the small groove that the rod-seal fits into..............
The Panorama view distorted the parts...but you get the idea..............
I'll take more pics after I fab a new rod and reassemble the two halves of the can.
I also installed the all vacuum lines onto the charcoal vapor canister (I'm waiting on the check valve and the filter valve). There was NO gasoline smell in the garage this afternoon after installing it this morning...........

The rubber is approx 1/32" thick.
The "cup" is approx 1 & 3/4" deep.................
The outside diameter of the diaphragm when installed in the "can" is approx. 6 & 1.4" across.....
Maybe your company has a catalog or website you can use to find a matching diaphragm for the Vette actuator.
