K.T. ............thanks!

I received all the parts I ordered, but I'm still catching up on "home repairs" after 3+ months of being "side-lined".

The home repairs are done........I finally was able to remove the vacuum canister so it would be easier to replace the firewall harness at the connection point. *Hmmmm...that canister could use a bead blasting and new paint*

Yes...............it was time for new wires.....................

May as well make it easy to get to the fuse block.........

Hmmmmmmm.....while the steering column is out-----may as well do the P/B conversion after replacing the firewall harness........

I think I'll look at RVZIO's thread to see what color the booster should be.....(may as well re-finish the driver's side firewall while everything is removed

Isn't this how the out-of-control spiral always starts?

I was just reviewing the pics I posted.....since the steering column is getting a fresh coat of paint and the rag-joint is new........

that manual steering box sure does need removing/degreasing/re-painting to match the column and booster.......

GREAT! Now I'm replying to my replies.................

Gunner,

Just paint it black and keep moving foward while you're on a roll.
Good luck.

EASY with the may-as-well's and while-I'm-at-it's, Gunner! Those lead to a very slippery slope...your car could be entirely disassembled before you even realize it!

In the meantime, keep up the good work. I'm happy to see you back on the '68 project again!

How true.......I finally finished the harness installation and used everyone's advice .....all the electrical problems/engine mis-firing/erratic gauges/etc....are solved

I even followed a Members advice and removed the "stub" of resistor wire that was coming out of the firewall and replaced it completely with 10 Ga. wire so that the P.O.'s HEI distributor will fire like it should........

The car starts like new/engine runs as smooth as can be...Thanks Men!

Hey DG , sorry I couldn't help with the booster. I don't have one but anyway you are making some great progress. Do it when you can!

While you are at the wiring run a heavy gauge ground to the heater fan motor mounted to the firewall. The fan usually is set in a metal body for a massive ground in cars other than the fiberglass Corvette. In ours it only has a thin ground wire to conduct current back so fan motor performance is limited by that. Heavier ground means more amps can go through.

Thanks for reminding me.....since the project is a resto-mod, I'm going to do the fan motor upgrade/ will add a 10 ga. ground wire.

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.......since it was 101*F inside my garage (only 97*F outside) I'm going to temporarily connect our hurricane/emergency air conditioner in the garage so I can concentrate on the to-do list.

Wouldn't you know it...................................... ...

The new brake booster rod for the pedal lower attaching hole is 5/8" short.

BUT........a forum member has provide the solution by installing an extension nut/threaded stud onto the booster rod!

Problem is.....no one in the area sells a 3/8"-24TPI extension nut

BUT......we can make one by re-drilling-re-tapping a 5/16" nut........................

I screwed the correct size stud into the extension nut......then screwed the clevis onto the stud (the member said the brake switch won't have to be adjusted/modified )

Of course a gasket had to be made............

Hopefully it will be installed in the morning and the car will get some fresh air (first time since March)

R.......I've said it many times......if the car would have been complete, I never would have modified ANYTHING.

BUT......since it was a basket-case......and I didn't have $40,000 in the cookie jar......LOL.........I DID manage to keep the interior in tact...."kinda".......

I'm having fun making changes that will be useful in a daily driver.....

(Now.....if that PTSD would stay away for 3 more months....)
